The fifth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner. This year 9 teams will be competing against each other and will involve a total of 76 matches. The tournament will commence and finish in Chennai, from 4 April 2012 to 27 May 2012. All the teams will be playing with each other, one at home and the other away from home with a league phase including of 72 matches.
The tournament kicks with Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions, against Mumbai Indians, the Champions League T20 winners. The first match will be held at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The IPL season five will last for 54 days comprising of 72 league matches. The two finalists of IPL four, Chennai and Bangalore will be hosting the play-offs.
