Hi Guys,

I am super excited to be part of the PGT mentorship program as this is my one time opportunity to take my tournament poker game to the next level under the guidance of Adi and other PGT mentors/pro. I truly believe that Intervention is definitely the best Guru to teach online/live tournament poker strategy. Unfortunately because of bad net connectivity in Goa the online sessions haven't kick started the way we would have liked, but for guys who are out there in Goa- they are having regular sessions at Adis place. However we do have a couple of catchup sessions lined up for this week, so really looking forward to those.

I did play the first three tournies of the PokerGuru tour.

5k Freezeout Event:
The structure of 5k freezeout tournament is such that you have to double up initially asap if you have any hope of running deep. In order to do so, I lost 30% of my stack initially caught bluffing twice. So basically with increasing blinds and shortened stack, i had only two options shove or fold. I decided to shove from MP with Ac4c when Nitish raised (Nitish calls and shows A5o)only to get a chop-chop- board ran 34567. Immediately next hand I shove again and get busted- Nitish 3bets a limper, I shove again and theres another guy acting behind who goes allin- Nitish and limper folds. I was happy to see my AK up against AQ only to get rivered by a straight.

12K Bounty Event:
In the 12k bounty event, I had a very passive table to start with and chipped upto 12K quite nicely without show-down. Then came the dull period wherein I was card dead/spot dead and was sitting quite for a long time. To make things worse, after sometime a couple of hyper agro players joined our table, i managed to barely hang on to the avg. stack by collecting a few blinds here and there. Later the table broke and we were moved to a new table. At blinds 600/1200 with 20kish stack, I see this action-Hussain raises-around 2.2x, Kim goes all-in and i see AdKd at SB- I call, Hussain folds. I was devastated to see Kim holding AA. The flop lifted my sprirts with JdQdKc opening flush draw hopes, but bricks on turn and river ended my day- gg me!! The day was still super good because my buddy Pradeep Singh shipped the 12k bounty event :):)

25k Main Event:
The 25k Main Event had an awesome structure and lured lots of good players. I played pretty well and ran deep in it- finishing 11th. My initial table was tough filled with tournament regulars and a couple of agressive players to my right. I couldn't get much going during the first 2 levels, did try to get hold of a few pots in the first 3 orbits but failed each time except once. With increasing blinds, failed attempts and agrressive players my stack had already dwindled down to 9k. I got a boost to my stack when this hand happened just before the break- At 300/600 with abt 8.5k stack, i open A6o to 1400, Mukul Chadda shoves abt 10.5k from BB with KQo and I make the call. I hit two pair on the flop and chip up to abt 18k. Immediately after the break, my table broke and I was on a new table. At 400/800 Uday Patil raises 3000 from button, I make a tank shove from BB with QQ, Uday insta-calls with AKo and I won that race. At 600/1200, SB raises 2600, I 3-bet him to 6000 with K2o-SB calls-Flop Q6{rag}, I make a c-bet of 5400-SB folds. At 600/1200- a guy from UTG+1 rasies 3000, I 3-bet him to 8000 with JJ, he calls, flop comes 38J, he checks, I make a c-bet of 6500 and he makes it to 25000- I go all-in and take down the pot. By now i had chiped upto 75k and was cruising. Then started the downfall, I spewed a few chips when i raised on the button and Amit Varma 3-bets from BB, I call only to fold on the flop(dumb me). At 1200/2400, I then loose a decent amount of chips to Krishna, when veryone folds i see AQo on SB, i raise 3x-he calls from BB-I lead 6800 on a K82 flop and get min raised - I fold. At 1200/2400, I raise 6000 with A4o-BB goes all in with A7o-I call and hit trips on the flop. Later at 1500/3000 was the biggest disaster I had abt 56-58K stack, Hussain leads 8500- I 3bet him to 18500 with AdQd-Hussain 4bets to 38500 leaving eaxctly abt 20k behind with him, I tank foreover-Hussain calls the clock on me and I fold finally.(Still dont know what should I have done there-Samohh says jam it in, Amit says flat the 8500 instead of 3-betting if I had intentions of folding to a cold 4-bet).But I almost always thought either he is flatting or jamming there with that stack size but leaving just 20k behind just dint feel right to me. Well after that, i was then left with 9BB at 2000/4000 and shoved A7o on a 6 handed table from cut-off, Krishna insta-calls on button with AcQc and I go busted!!

I did not play the high roller event and instead put in good volumes at the cash tables.

I havent played much online for the last week but now that I am back, will play a few Micro-Low turbos on PS with limited online bankroll. I am very bad at online BankRoll Management, even though I had done fairly well in MTTs last year and this year- I sometimes itch towards playing online cash games and high stake HU hyperturbo way above my bankroll only to spew away all my earnings and leave myself suffering now.So I hope this acts as a lesson to all the readers and a personal note to myself- STOP PLAYING ONLINE CASH GAMES ABOVE YOUR BANKROLL!!(I hope I come here and stop myself each time I think of doing it again).

Cheers!!

Ohh what a tour, one of the remarkable. I landed in Goa 5 pm, surprising weather was very pleasant as its summer time. I loved it. Desperate to meet Adi on 7 pm for live session. At last the time come when i personally meet Adi and other participants feeling bit nervous and also was happy to meet them. Very healthy and good disscussion went on for 2 and half hours and was very satisfied with that.
I headed straight to casino after that session and started to grind some cash games with some success and bad beats. I managed to get 15K + on first day.
PGT :
i played all the tournaments of PGT. It was very fast for me as i used to play online where lot of hands are dealt in an hr as compare to live.Lot of time wasted in dealing the cards, counting out chips ans some spats between players or dealers i have played very few hands in tournaments and got busted prety early in 5k,12k,25K as blinds were around 20 bb which was prety fast in first 2 to 3 levels.
5 K Event :
Paman raises 2.5x from UTG, I 3 bet him with AKs, he shoved and i call and busted out with his KK.
12 K :
Busted my AKs with 55 villain hit his 4 card flush to beat my Pair.
25 K :
100/200/20. Goindi(10K) raises 3x from UTG, Anosh(15K) call from Button, i (15k) 3bet them from SB with QQ. Goindi goes all in and Anosh folds and i called him. Goindi showed 99 and i was happy to see that. but my happiness doesn't long last as he hit his sets on flop and busted after few hands after that.
50K:
Intially i was not planed to play this but i won half of buying from satelite and played decently in 50 k event . I earned the chips the first hand i played in the tournament and got healthy chip stacks early in the tournaments and survived 2 coin flips till i busted on 10th by the chip leader harshad. The hand goes like 1000/2000 this harshad limps from UTG, called by rishi from SB and checked from BB holding 23, flop come 452, i bet 6K called by harshand and rishi fold, turns come 2, i checked, harshand bet 20 k and i moved all in for my 50 K which called by him and his top pair stands.
50 K was tournament of my life till now as it has on of the toughest field i have ever played. i finished 10th which was satisfactory in terms of players i played against.
I have some decent sessions in cash to cover my buy-ins and trips overall the very satisfied with trip and looking forwards to Mentor ship program.

SPECIAL CONGRATS TO MR. NITISH GUPTA.

bye.

The Plan.

I have been thinking recently on how to get the most of being selected for the PokerGuru Mentorship program. I am already playing quite a lot live tournaments now and interacting with Adi and others is already helping me a lot. Also helping is posting on the hand advice forum on the PG website.

I have made some money from playing on Pokerstars but cashed out a lot of it away. Right now I am having 400 dollars in my account. As I have already mentioned in my earlier blogs, I like playing the 6-max cash and that is the format I am most comfortable in.
So I have devised a plan for the next 3 months on how to learn and put in MTT’s volume as well. The plan is pretty simple actually. 2000 hands a day of micro level 6-max from Monday to Friday and whatever profits I make from the 5 days of 6-max will be plonked into micro donkaments on Saturday and Sunday. My playing time on Saturday’s would be from 9pm onwards to whatever times the tournaments last. Sunday it will be from 3pm to around midnight-ish.

Any recommendations on which tournaments (micro-buyins) to play during those times would be appreciated. I will be posting a sort of report card every Monday/Tuesday and also some interesting spots/hands on the PG forums. Will appreciate the feedbacks like always.

One of the reasons for posting this plan is so that I don’t deviate from it. Too many times we make resolutions and plans and don’t stick to it. Making them known puts a bit of pressure on oneself. Hoping this helps and motivates.

Cheers!

PGT was again a big success with solid numbers on all days, with this being such a huge month of Poker, people have lot to choose from, so even though our numbers dipped from last time we were pleased with the overall turnout. We have been taking feedback on structures, prize-distribution, formats etc, after taking all the review we have been able to refine PGT and is now the number one poker series in India where the best players in the country come for their shot at Glory. The POY Leader-board is shaping up pretty well and with 12 lacs at stakes it could get highly competitive in the end. We are planning to make our last event our featured event. The regular format of 5k, 12k, 25k and 50k will be replaced by 10k, 24k, 50k and 100k, so will be a much bigger event, this isn't final yet and we are still contemplating what would be the best for the poker economy at that point, we will make a formal announcement once we make a final decision. We are also in midst of planning something huge, its a new series and if everything works out, it will be huge and I am sure all the players will love it, its something just for the new players and people building their bankrolls, more on that real soon.

Personally this is how all the tournaments at PGT went for me, I am not mentioning my thought process in any hand, if people ask a question on a particular hand, I will more than gladly give my thought process, but don't feel like doing it for all the hands now:

5k: played pretty tight for most part, no major hands. Bustout hand 150-300 (25) utg limps, phil on btn makes it 1500 I go all in for 6k with TT in the sb and run into Jasven's AA in the bb.

12k: I ran pretty deep in this one, few interesting hands:

100-200 short stack shoves 650, I reshove 5200 on CO (bounty hunting!) with 89, bb Bharat Naidu calls with JJ, shorty has 66 board runs out QT976, rivered a straight to double up.
1k-2k YJkim limps, btn limps, sb calls, I look at KQhh and shove 20k from bb, KIM calls with QTss rest fold, I hold and dbl.
1.5k-3k I open shove 33 on the button for 48k, raj in sb calls with AK, I hold and chip upto 80k.
1.5k-3kk I min raise k2o shorthanded, Kishore M calls from bb, flop comes Qh 8h 2d, he check calls 4200. Turn 4 check check, river 4 he bets 8k with 5k behind, I call he shows KJ.
2k-4k Raman shoves 40k from sb I call with AK in bb, he has J8 and wins the 40-60.
2-4k I open button for 8k, Kishore in bb puts it in with JQ (was shortstacked), I call with AJ and loose that.
3k-6k Bustout hand, I shove 28k with AJ, Arindam in sb calls with JQ, hits a Q and that was that.

25k Main event:

200-400 Uday Patil opens for 1200k utg, I call with QQ in MP rest fold. Flop is Kh 4h 7d, he bets 2k I call. Turn is 4 check check, river is 9 he bets 3750 I call, he shows KK.
200-400 I open KJss for 800 on 7600 stack, Amit Varma calls, flop 556 I bet 1350 he calls, turn is a 3, I check he puts me allin, I fold he shows AQ.
300-600 I shove 25hh for 5100 utg, Hussain calls with AA in bb, gg me and Congrats to him for winning the tournament and being the new PGT CHampion!!!

50k Highroller:

Just gonna talk about few hands since they were so many interesting hands in this, definitely the best big buyin tournament in India. The structure is just so suited for a high rollers, 6 max with antes from start and deep starting stack, just makes it soooo much fun.
200-400 I open 56hh to 1k, Kishore (K) calls sb and Dushyant (D) calls bb. Flop is 4d 7c Td, K checks, D bets 2k I raise to 5500 only D calls. Turn is Ts, D check calls 6k. River is a 3 and he check taaaaaankkkkkkkkkkk calls my shove, I show my str8 and he mucks.
800-1600 I open KQ to 3200, nitesh shove 24k, I call he shows QTss, I hold.
2-4k I shove 50k on btn with KJo, bb Porous on 30k stack calls with AQ and holds.
2-4k Harshad opens for 13200 I shove 23k with 33 (we r playing 4 handed) he calls with AJ and hit a J to win and bust me.

Pretty pumped for the APT, there is a satellite where CR is adding 5 seats to a 10k rentry to APT Main Event, this is probably only the 2nd time we are having a money added event in India which is sick value or players, I figure they will get 30 people with 10 rentries atleast, which would mean they would be giving seats to 13 people. I would recommend everyone to come and try and secure their seat through this satellite. Its at 8:30 pm on Saturday at CR.

Mentorship Program has been going great, since its a big group I have split them into people who can come for live session in Goa and those who cant. Its been a little slower for those who can only attend online classes than those who were able to come down to Goa. Anyways, we have been making good progress and should be just matter of time before a lot of them start showing results, I can already see a lot of their games improving. Although time consuming, I have always enjoyed teaching, so its been fun and am looking forward to getting atleast one or two sikos from this group. Will be blogging regularly during APT, also if u guys have any hand advice questions, pls post in the forum, lot of active threads with good discussions, Join IN!

Hi guys..

My name is Olli, and this is my first blog ever.. I have been thinking of blogging before, but I couldn't find enough many reasons or the time for doing it before.
Now however I am highly motivated to blog as a part of the Pokerguru mentorship program which I was selected into. I will be blogging mainly about poker but some other things and thoughts might come up as well.

First a small presentation about me. My name is Olli Virkkunen. I was born in Finland, lived there my first 10 years before moving with my parents to Sweden.. I stayed in Sweden until I was about 25 years old, when I decided to leave the country. I was tired of the cold climate and tasteless food. I came to Goa, India and just fell in love and decided to stay in India and Asia..
Since that I have spent most of my time in India, and also in Cambodia, Thailand, Macau and lots of shorter visits in different countries.
i started playing poker in Sweden, small stakes 5 card draw was the game we played until internet poker and texas hold'em boom hit us. Me and my friends started playing online poker quite early, but we never took it seriously. It was more like Friday/ Saturday entertainment with beer, friends and music..
I did find out early that I could play profitable in live games, and started playing at casinos and other games.. But I felt like keeping my game on a hobby/semi pro level, and did so. Until I started playing more last year and started to feel like giving it a shot..
Since that my online game has been quite unstable, but my live games has worked out much better. I have totally 4 cashes in casino tournaments in Goa (1 is not listed in my profile from casino carnival in april 2nd place) and good results from private friendly tournaments which have been up to 40 players. Also my cash games has worked out, but with some swings..

since some 2-3 weeks back I have started to grind MTT SnGs on pokerstars. mainly 2,5,10 and 20 table tourneys. I am playing on the lower limits and trying to build up a bankroll. This feels like the easiest way to build a bankroll. I will try to avoid cash games and bigger games. I am also using holdem manager 2 software for analyzing my game, and trying to find my mistakes.. And maybe most importantly I will try to stay disciplined and not to play too much so I don't tilt..

I've been putting more volume in live tourneys too, since february I have played 6 tourneys at the casinos, and have a 4th place from PGT march, and a 6th place from the last IPL 15k.
I have learnt that I am much more comfortable with deeper stacked torneys then any others, and will be avoiding tourneys with less then 100BB starting stacks from now on until I feel different.

I have been analyzing my last hand from PGT May 12K. Guy from UTG shoves, he have been playing quite loose and very aggressive seen him making allin calls with A3o, and he did just shove the hand before it too. blind are 300/600 antes are in, I'm getting short stacked and decide to call him with AQo. he shows 33, and it's coin flip time.. Preflop we are about 53/47% to his favor. the flop comes K62 rainbow... and the situation is different. now he is 74/26% favorite to win this hand. if the flop would have been let's say K66 instead, he would still have been 60/40% favorite to win this hand.. So I didn't hit turn or river and I was out just like all the calculations predicted.. Anyway AQ and other Ax combinations are good for pushing, but not always for calling, but I think my call was the right move because of my short stack and hig blinds..

Finally I am very excited to be a part of the mentorship program and are given a chance to learn from Intervention and so many other highly motivated and talented players in this group.
I am very confident in that all of us will learn lots of new things from each other.
may the flop be with us.
Until next time..

Olli...

Well in one word it means 'everything' to me to be mentored by one the best players in the world.. A year ago i was this broke ass college kid who had no direction or any clue about what i wanted to do with my life.. Funny how life turns around so fast, all it took was one freeroll to absolutely turn my life upside down, and again for that i have to thank Pokerguru.. its been a crazy couple of months since September 2011 and i have managed to build up a semi decent bankroll out of the tournament winnings i won during that trip..

Anyways, i'm really happy about being chosen to be mentored by adi. After our first session where we reviewed some hands and spoke about playing early stages in tournaments i cant wait for theses 3 months to pass by and take all the knowledge i would have learnt by then and put it into practice.. I really feel blessed to be given this opportunity and really lucky that adi decided he is going to single handedly take indian poker to the next level on a massive scale.. well if one takes a look at any of his past students its really inspiring to know that i am going to be given the opportunity to get on that same platform as them..

i coudn't make it to this edition of the PGT due to a last minute family emergency but im definitely gonna make a trip in the next couple of weeks and cannot wait to start blogging about my experiences during the next trip with you all.. So stay tuned and till then take care, Slammy Jammy..

Many people call their run-bad "variance" and spend all their time looking to reduce variance, spare their tournament life and generally spend their life seeking the promised land of the better spot. Variance isn't all bad though. I am afraid I might have bored people with all my talk of run-bad in the last month; that was variance, but so is the fact that I am suddenly running super hot at the moment and that kind of variance is the reason MTT grinders do this for a living!

My bankroll on Stars was down a huge amount and as another HSMTT reg kindly pointed out to me, I was on a 10k downswing before I sat down to my last online session before the live month for May. I wasn't expecting anything to happen and was happy to be switching to live after so long. A few hours later and a few crucial flips later I found myself deep in the Big 109 and the $22 15k Gtd (a tournament I really dislike in General). For the first time in months, I won several critical flips back to back, and my stacks became pretty big. I felt like barring one howler early on, I played really well in the Big 109 and the $22 FO as well, but I am very aware that all it would have taken was to lose one crucial flip and I would have been out. As it turned out, I didn't and my stacks grew massive and I gradually ground out both the freezeouts playing extremely safe and patient (by my standards-most people on the forums would think I was taking maniacal risks for my tournament life). Suddenly my downswing is now the biggest upswing of my life. Yesterday at Event 1 of PGT.

I ran really hot for the first time in live tourneys. I got lots of chips in with AKss against 56 on a 356ss board and hit. I then lost A9o to AKo before winning AQ v Aj, QQ v AA vJJ, 88 v KJ v 33, and 66 v AK to take a chiplead. I then lost a flip and took one ridiculous beat to chop a pot where i was 90% favorite before resuming my run good by getting it in on a J86 board with K6 and outdrawing the J10 of the young guy who's Aces I had sucked out on earlier...the chap seemed devastated and I do hope he runs good in the later events. The point I would take away from this is that many people would have looked for and found ways to get away from these hands and flips. That's doing it wrong...you don't win tournaments without winning flips, and avoiding them when you are getting the right price and right situations just hurts you in the long run. I always get funny looks from lots of people for how often I get it in bad or call seemingly light but if you never get it in behind, you are almost certainly playing too tight. The tendency to tighten up too much when running bad (which i did to my detriment last month) is very tempting, but i think its really dangerous and my advice to anyone would always be to err on the side of being too aggressive rather than too cautious in MTTs.

I am really excited about the Pokerguru mentorship program. Learning from adi and getting to interact with a large group of dedicated players is very enjoyable and discussing things with others is the best way to become good at poker. I have already benefited a lot from listening to advice that I have gotten from adi and I don't think its a coincidence that I have shipped my biggest scores just after getting advice from him and realizing some areas where I was spewing! I am really enjoying the experience and am loving how active the HH forums are at the moment. See you all in a while, and may you all experience positive variance.

Hi, my name is Ashutosh, and most of the goa tournament and cash game regulars already know me, so wouldn't want to waste much time with the pleasantries :)

I am very excited to be a part of the Pokerguru mentorship program, a chance to learn tournament poker from guys who have won millions online and live cumulatively. I will be blogging pretty actively for the next few months, and looking forward to learn from everyone here.

Last week was pretty average and break even for me tournament wise. I was in Goa for India Poker Series and played 3 tournaments. On the first day, I split the 2nd prize in the mega satellite. In the 10K event, I was running okay until my last hand which was when I was 20 BBs deep and was as follows - Cutoff limps with Q5ss, I check my BB with J7. The flop is J 7 5, rainbow, with 9K behind, i check, Big blind bets 3K, I checkraise him to 6K,he calls. The turn is a K, I go all in for my last 4K, he calls, but the river is a brutal 5, he makes his trips, and that was the end of me.

In the 20K main event, I didnt get a double up in the initial stages, although my stack was pretty constant, I was constantly getting blinded out, as I was card dead and someone always got better cards, when I had hands. Ultimately, I shoved 22 from cutoff, which ran into Big blind's AQ and that was it. I finished 13th in both the events.

It was fun being part of the pokerguru mentorship sessions, and I am really enjoying being part of the discussions. I have always wanted to do better online on pokerstars, and I am going to try to build a good bankroll online in the next 1-2 months.

Well, that's it for me for now. Until next time, Take her easy!!

this is my first blog ever on pokerguru. so just a short intro about myself. my name is Arjun Parmar and i am from pune i am 27 years old and married. i've playing poker for the past 2 years and have learnt a lot through live experience and by reading book, blogs, forums etc...

thanks to Adi and the prokerguru team for starting the mentorship program. its a great way to get to know new people and about their poker thinking and views and also this program will for sure be a good way to improve one's game both live n online. the first session was interesting where everyone had different views and comments about early stage tourney play for online and live and we also discussed the range of hands which we should be playing during this stage.

since the first till today i have been playing $7 n $15 SnG's on pokerstarts in which i cashed out in 5 games in first place and a few didnt go so well will work hard on it. other than playing poker i have been reading forums and blogs on online poker and i also saw the PCA 2012 super high roller event which was taken down by Victor "ISILDUR1" Blom from Norway for $1 mil and also saw a few EPT events. also saw the high stakes poker series. a great way to learn new things about poker.

other then poker i have been at work which is going good. spent time with my friends and family. drank a little. so... ya its going good till now.

looking forward to meet everyone today in the evening. till then have a good one n god bless

Cheers :-)

Its that time again. The uber long live schedule in Goa along with a sick online sched on stars. This basically means about 20 days of Non-Stop tournament poker. It starts with PGT, which has drawn in huge numbers in the first two editions. I have not been able to do much in the second season and I am really looking forward to a few deep runs. All the events have really deep structures and it should be fun . Next up is the UPC. They have a pretty decent schedule too with 50k Main which I suppose is deep. ( If anyone from the IPC or the Aces crew can post the structure for the events it will be great. I havent seen any online. Just a request.). And Finally APT. I think there are more side events added this time around and also there is the Main Event. I hope I run deep in this Main event too and play some good poker.

I grinded online for a couple of days after I returned from the Philippines and havent gotten a decent score yet, although I ran deep in a few. I built a huge stack in the first SCOOP event but couldnt hold on to it. I hope I get a few results in the coming days where most gaurantees will be crushed.

Getting ready for such a long tour and intense poker action is actually not a joke. Although its exciting to play these tournaments and meet your friends, everyone knows that we are there on a purpose. It is very important for me to get into the zone and work on my game before these events. I was able to identify a few leaks in my game ( With Adi's help ofcourse) which I need to work on. I am basically going over a few hand histories for a couple of tournies I have run deep in. I realized that I need to control the aggression during the middle stages of the tournament. I know I am picking good spots most of the time but I need to tone down the aggression . This happened in the SCOOP and I was not happy with it. I realized this during this Phillipines trip and played the deeper events accordingly ( really solid). Although I dint cash, I cracked into Day 3 in the APT main and Day 2 of the APPT main and I was happy with the way I played. Another area I feel I need a lot of work on is Bet sizing. I dont have consistent bet sizes from what I have noticed which becomes very easy for a good player to exploit.

Another area which I need to work on is tough 6 max fields like the PGT highrollers event. I always end up either owning myself or getting owned on multiple levels in these fields and I am trying real hard to work on my 6 max game. One thing i have realized is that I peel a lot out of position with marginal hands against good players which is basically like a " you are free to own me" public announcement.I have realized it now and tried to play my best during the SCOOP M 215 6 max.

Poker is a very funny game. Today if you do well in a tournament you feel you are playing the best poker of your life and tomorrow, once you have learnt a little more and look back , you realize that you could have played way better in that tournament than you actually did. It a continuous learning process and it always makes me feel like I have just started.

Wow! An amazing time I had railing Prabhat. (He won the Big 109 for a cool pay-day of 24K in addition to 3.5K chop for 1st in 22) I rail the results in OPR of PG team and other players I know. But this is one of the few times I railed someone playing online. It is difficult to rail these sickos as their work hours usually start at 10pm and go into the wee hours of the morning. (I play 6-max cash during evenings/whenever I get time but will be firing up them MTT's every now and then as I get a bit more confident with the learnings from the Mentorship Program). Anyway I somehow woke up at 4am-ish today not feeling well. Sugars were a bit haywire. Couldn’t get back to sleep. So went to Face-book as most of us who are addicted to it do. 95 billion! That company is seriously worth more than that. Anybody able to invest in Facebook IPO should definitely do so. Anyways so the first update I see is of Prabhat who is having a deep run in the Big 109. I wished him good luck on his status update and started railing. He was already on the FT of the 22.
I have usually found it boring to rail. But this time I somehow was getting a better understanding of how the game was being played and was noticing patterns. This deep into a tournament (at around 30-40-50BB) it is usually a mixture of a game of chicken, range estimation, balancing, stack maintenance and very few showdowns or even flops for that matter. The players who are better at range balancing and range estimation usually come out at the top. Of course there is the variance of chance. Prabhat won a few crucial hands where he was behind, the one I recollect was A10 against AK for his tournament life. No doubt he ran well. But he has run really badly in April after the double win in late March. Check his blog on the site. I am sure he would have been pretty disheartened by April results. I know I would have been. I have played in 6 live tournaments since the PGT Feb win and have not cashed in any of them and I am already questioning myself and pretty disappointed about it all. But I know there are so many better players who have gone on cash-less runs for so much longer. Musing about 6 cash-less runs is a joke really to MTT grinders. (The problem however comes back to that in Goa tourneys you have to keep cashing otherwise a solitary win after a long bad run will not get you into profits due to small field sizes and small prize pools.)
Anyway the key I have realised is to keep plugging away. Having the belief and being stoic about results is as much a part of MTT player’s arsenal as is his range estimation skills and such. Many of us will get disheartened by bad runs which are definitely going to happen. But keep learning and improving and putting in the volume and I for one will remember the words that Adi told Prabhat in one forum entry after his deep run in one of the tournaments was cut short: “Chin up!”

I am pretty sure my ipoker RNG got messed up while it was being downloaded. Thats almost a 20bi downswing at ipoker 6max and its starting to get mildly irritating at this point. There is of course the more than occasional spew that comes in with these kind of downswings, but I am pretty sure i'm getting anal-raped by the RNG's turn-river card run-out system. You know the miracle one outer, or the more familiar runner-runner flush or the everyday occuring turn-creates-a-gutshot-river-obliges syndrome.

Here's a gem 250 bb deep on a 6max tbl playing hu vs a super spewy whale:

$2/$4 No Limit Holdem

HoldemManager2

Hero : $1040
BB : $871

Pre-Flop ($6, 2 players) Hero is BTN with Ah Ac

Hero raises to $12, BB raises to $38, Hero raises to $96, BB calls $58

Flop ($192, 2 players) 4h 8h Jh

BB bets $775 and is all in, Hero calls $775

Turn ($1742, 2 players) 5c

River ($1742, 2 players) 7s

BB shows 3c 6s and wins $1742 with a straight

But as a certain learned person at the mid-stakes 6 max forum used to say (before black friday rendered him unemployed, he currently spends his days ruling over the starcraft universe btw) theres only one way to get out of this rot son and it involves:
1. man up
2. put in more volume

to which i say

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

On the bright side i got 44% rakeback on a ipoker skin (betmostpoker).

The response for the Pokerguru mentorship program was absolutely amazing. We had over 60 applicants and it was really tough picking the final 21. I have already emailed the chosen 21 who will be getting trained by the team till end of July. There are still a couple to get back to me so I will just post the list here real quick (incase u hvnt joined skype chat group msg/email me).
Nitesh Gupta, Rajnish, Simon, Ashutosh, Olli, Mukesh Jetwani, Laveena, Danish, Prabhat Mukherjee, Sumit Sapra, Nehal, Sachin Sinha, Jagdeep Singh, Arjun Parmar, Prateek Verma, Shashank Santosh, Vinay Suchede, Siddarth Singhvi, Ankur Gupta, Phaninder and Shawn Chatterton.
It was really tough choosing these 21 with so many impressive and motivated individuals applying, we will definitely do this program again in the future and I would encourage all those who didn’t get picked this time to apply again, there were a lot of you I really wanted to take in the group but we had to limit the number, in the meantime I would suggest working on your game as much as you can so you in better position to take advantage of such future programs, it was important to me that all students are financially independent to play on their own and not be financially dependent on us for staking. During the next 3 mnths I want to identify the most talented, committed and loyal students, who could then be offered a place on the pro team with a staking deal. All 21 students will be blogging and actively posting in forums (hands focusing on what we have covered), so I would encourage everyone to join these discussions and become active on pokerguru forums and follow their progress over the next 3 mnths. I am expecting huge things in live arena from some young guns I am training, in the upcoming mnth.

This is a busy mnth beginning with PGT and ending with APT. Last PGT wasn’t so good for the Pokerguru pros with very few deep runs and 0 cashes, but that’s how it goes in mtts, with the amount of live poker ahead in May, I am expecting the team to take down atleast cpl of the bigger events. The team will be blogging while in goa for the next 3 weeks so you can read blogs or live updates from events we cover to stay updated. We are still finalizing our WSOP plans, if it happens I will post all the details here.
