The World Series of Poker (WSOP) announced the dates for its 2017 Global Casino Championship, which will once again be held at Harrah’s Cherokee, making it the third consecutive year.

Ty Stewart, Executive Director, WSOP stated that, “The growth of the World Series of Poker Circuit over the last year has been astounding. We are reaching new players in the United States and around the world and it’s great to have them square off against one another in this one-of-a-kind event. We’re thrilled to be back at the beautiful Harrah’s Cherokee once again, which has always been a great host for this prestigious event.”

Formerly known as the National Championship, the Global Casino Championship will run from August 8 to 10 and will have a minimum guaranteed prize pool of $1 million, with the winner getting the prestigious WSOP gold bracelet. The final table set for Thursday, August 10 will be televised.

The event will run in the middle of the new 2017/2018 WSOP Circuit, which is scheduled to unfold from August 2 to 16. The WSOP Circuit will have 12 gold ring events, including a $1,675 Main Event on its roster, besides the Global Casino Championship.

Players who qualify for the Global Casino Championship are those who have won a WSOP Circuit Main Event, or casino champion title in the US or at its international stops.

Additionally, the top 50 point earners on this season’s domestic WSOP Circuit will receive an automatic entry. Last year, the bubble was 125 points for such a season-long automatic entry, though it is expected to be higher this year, with several stops still pending on the domestic Circuit.

Those with such automatic entry will receive three nights stay at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, with final tablists or international participants getting an extra night free, plus all qualifiers getting a $500 travel stipend.

Players in the top 100 list of the Global Poker Index (GPI)/WSOP Rankings will have the opportunity to directly buy-in for $10,000. Plus, players who have won a gold ring on this season’s WSOP Circuit will also be allowed to buy-in at the same price.

The $10,000 buy-in will be rake-free and added to the prize pool, with WSOP putting in another $1,000,000.

There are still seven WSOP Circuit stops remaining, giving players the chance to win and automatically qualify for the 2017 Global Casino Championship. These stops include Los Angeles, Atlantic City, Tulsa, Omaha/Council Bluffs, Cherokee, Baltimore and New Orleans. International Circuit stops remaining on this season’s schedule include Italy, Czech Republic, France, Portugal and Belgium.
