WSOP 2014 Main Event Update: Indian Challengers Fighting with Aditya Agarwal and Jasven Saigal Leading Indian Warriors, Eric Tracey and Phil Ivey Top Day 1C

WSOP has been one roller coaster ride for poker players and fans alike, this year. The phantasmagoria of poker events is currently about to explode with its final and most popular event – $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event, with its guaranteed $ 10 Million prize! The first two starting days are done and now the play proceeds to Day 1C. We bring you the highlights of all the striking moments, besides news of all our Indian challengers, present and participating in the mammoth happening…

A quick recap: Event #64 Pot-Limit Omaha had Patrick Walsh defeating Javed Abrahams to take his first WSOP bracelet and $923,379. Pat waded through a field of 418 entries, before landing in a thrilling heads up finale, with Javed, which he successfully overcame.

Event #65 WSOP Main Event Day 1A saw 771 entries, with 2005 Champion Joe Hachem sending the cards in the air. Martin Jacobson leads in chip count with 200,100, followed by Aaron Wilt with 157,650, Seamus Cahill with 150,775, Andy Hwang with 118,875 and Mukul Pahuja with 114,800. Day 1B saw another 2,144 runners join the fray, taking the total up to 2,915. At last count Trey Luxemberger, an unknown on the Hendon Mob database, was leading with a stack of 193,450 chips.

The Main Event saw its third and final starting flight with Day 1C. The day saw a magnanimous field of 3,768 players, which became a record setting field in WSOP history. That means this year’s total number of participants comes out to a staggering 6,683, after combining those of earlier days. This will be the fifth largest Main event in the history of WSOP, with a total prize pool of $62,820,200, to be divided among the top 693 players.

Our Indian team is right there and fighting fit, with Team Mentor Aditya ‘Intervention’ Agarwal holding 53,050, Jasven Saigal with 53,000, Akash Malik with 43,000 and Akshay Bharadwaj stacking 31,225.

We also noticed numerous other players of Indian origin, such as Raj Vohra with a stack of 127,400, Kunal Patel with 76,950, Ankush Madavia accumulating 45,725, Shiva Dudani holding 33,600 and Amit Makhija with 29,600.

All of the above are still in the fray and will continue playing in the Main event, the following Day 2C on July 9.

Besides the above, Indian compatriots, Shashank Jain, Samay Parikh, Apoorva Goel and Sahil Agarwal are still contending and resume play tonight with Day 2B.

Day 1C will go down in WSOP poker history, as an action filled day that also, saw moments of entertainment and crazy characters. Pauly “Walnuts” Bianchi, made it to the event at the last moment, by gambling his way in, thanks to three hands of blackjack in Chicago, just hours before the start.

The first one to exit was Steve Billirakis, followed by Sam Trickett, Kathy Liebert, Andre Akkari, David “Devilfish” Ulliott, Stephen Chidwick, David Kitai, Andy Frankenberger, Tom Schneider, and last year’s last woman standing Jackie Glazier.

WSOP greats were not spared either and the ones quickly busted, were Main Event champions Greg Raymer (2004) and Jerry Yang (2007), besides many former runner-ups Tuan Lam (2007), Ivan Demidov (2008), John Racener (2010), and Jesse Sylvia (2012).

The most notable chip leaders, after five two-hour levels of play, were Eric Tracey with 206,175, closely trailed by Phil Ivey with 187,025. Others included Ronnie Pease with 181,850, Nick Yunis holding 171,100, Tom Sarra Jr stacking 168,100 and Martin Hansen with 167,250.

A number of sports stars set the floor abuzz, with their presence to cheer for friends or just attending the carnival. These included football star Gerard Pique, NBA’s Paul Pierce and Earl Barron, NFL defensive lineman Richard Seymour, Australian cricketer Shane Warne and Aaron Paul.

Play will resume at 12pm Vegas time and notables still in contention include Daniel Negreanu, McLean Karr Gus Hansen, Haralabos Voulgaris, Robert Varkonyi, Amir Lehavot, Paul Pierce, Earl Barron, Carlos Mortensen, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Colman, Joe Hachem, David Tuchman, Jonathan Duhamel, Berry Johnston, Gerard Pique and Scotty Nguyen among many others.
