WPT National Philippines: Ying Chua Claims Main Event Title For $86,130, Successful Year-Opening Run For Team India

Curtains came down on the World Poker Tour (WPT) National Philippines yesterday, with Ying Ling Chua (cover image) winning the Main Event for $86,130. The first-poker festival of 2016, the WPT proved a great plank for our Indian Challengers to begin the year, with several cashes throughout.

Besides cashes in side events, Amit Jain, Sameer Rattonsey and Kunal Patni all cashed in the Main Event and even as we speak, Patni is now on to the Macau Millions. He posted it on his Facebook page, “Playing the opening event at the Macau Millions in half an hour.#TeamSpades#Adda52“.

 

Main Event Final Table

Malaysian player, Ying ling Chua claimed his first ever Main Event and the winning purse of $86,130 in this event. In total there were 268 entries and a generated prize pool of $389,800.

Chua who started the final table with a comfortable stack of more than million chips reported his game, saying, “I planned to play my A-game. My specialty is six max, I play better short-handed.” He then added, “I was also hoping to get more chips from the Chinese player (Cui Jia Bin) because he was very aggressive. All I needed was to get good cards and he would pay me off.”

Sweden’s Louis Nyberg was the first final table elimination, when his pocket deuces failed against Markus Garberg’s ace king. Jia Bin followed at fifth place, after being busted by Michael Hua.

Four-handed play was intense and finally Hua exited at fourth place, when his set of fives was overcome by Norway’s Kai Paulsen. 16 orbits later it was Paulsen’s turn and he hit the rails at the hands of Chua in third place.

Heads up play saw the chip lead swing wildly and Chua later admitted, “I could tell he was a very experienced player. He even made me fold a pocket pair when he raised.”

However, Chua prevailed and the final hand saw Garberg raise to 130,000. Chua re-raised to 560,000, and Garberg moved all in. Chua, who had the lead called and turned over the . Garberg tabled , and needed to catch up. The board had few favors for him and displayed . Garberg got a gutshot straight draw on the flop, but Chua with two pair took the title and Garberg made second place for $60,490.
