In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly roundup of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories:

It was an action packed week online with regulars coming out in full force to make multiple scores and topping them all was Young Gun Anmol ‘anmols’ Srivats. Srivats raked in almost $20K from a number of cashes and is our ‘PokerGuru Star of The Week’.

The going promises to be an exciting one for online railbirds with the tentative schedule for the 2017 Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP) released by PokerStars.

Live action commenced with the Manila Megastack 6 that kicked off yesterday, November 29 and will run at the PokerStars LIVE poker room at the City of Dreams until December 4 with 14 featured events. In the western half of the globe, there will be the World Poker Tour (WPT) Prague that begins today and will roll out nine events till December 6 at the Grandior Hotel.

Goa continues to be in the news, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also targeting casinos with a signature campaign seeking to ban them.

In international news, we have PokerStars releasing key dates for its 2017 festivals and championships. In China, authorities again played spoilsport and shut down the Asia Poker League (APL) Shanghai and in brand tie-ups, partypoker signed on UK pro Sam Trickett. From the business world we have news of David Baazov, former founder and CEO of Amaya finding two new investors for taking the company private.

Several tournaments took place and reports are in from the Master Classics of Poker, the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Noumea and the WPT Caribbean. Besides that there are also reports from the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Potawatomi, as well as the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Ameristar Kansas City and the Borgata Fall Poker Open.

The shortage of cash with government restrictions on withdrawals may have contributed to it or not, but it was a busy-busy week online, with many regulars scoring big at PokerStars. Leading the pack with the most cashes was Young Gun Anmol ‘anmols’ A Srivats who made multiple scores amounting to almost $20K, and for this he walks away with our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title!

Anmol banked $3,111.12 for winning the PokerStars ‘Hot $109, $10K GTD’ and made $1,044.83 for fourth place in the PokerStars ‘Big $82, $8K GTD’. He also scored $2,874.08 for second place in the PokerStars ‘Big $162, $15K GTD’ and banked another $2,532.22 for first place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $16.50, $12K GTD’. Anmol further made $2,563.70 for third place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $25K GTD’ and won $3,384.34 for fifth place in the PokerStars ‘Big $22, $100K GTD’. Additionally he won $1,850.00 for first place in the Party Poker ‘Heavyweight: Apollo – $5,000 GTD’ and another $1,755.00 for second place in the 888 Poker ‘The $6,000 Late Night Crocodile’.

The next big scorer was Abhishek ‘abhi147’ Rathod, who cashed $6,059.15 for winning the PokerStars ‘Hot $22, $35K GTD’ and made $1,221.28 for fifth place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $11, $30K GTD’, for a total of almost $7K.

Other notable scorers this past week include –

Sahil ‘$lim$hady’ Chutani won $4,680.93 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $55, $50K GTD’

Arsh ‘BigggTymeR’ Grover won $3,582.27 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Big $22, $40K GTD’

Amit ‘bblacklegend’ Jain made $3,435.85 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $55, $35K GTD’

Eka ‘Goforitjam’ Vedantham cashed $2,050.87 for 10th place in the PokerStars ‘$215 Sunday Supersonic [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $200K GTD’ and made $1,297.00 for 10th place in the PokerStars ‘Big $109, $150K GTD’

Rohit ‘buzzzbeee85’ Mariwalla won $3,158.29 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$162 NLHE [Win the Button, Ultra Deep], $10K GTD’

Raghav ‘Rossoneri23’ Bansal won $1,980.94 for 8th place in the PokerStars ‘$320 Saturday KO, $175K GTD’

Piyush ‘iriveru16’ Gupta won $1,903.41 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $109, $10K GTD’

Aditya ‘Adi Agarwal’ Agarwal made $1,425.85 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $10K GTD’

Rohit ‘$oulcrusher’ Mittal won $1,894.95 for 9th place in the PokerStars ‘Omania High Roller: $320 PLO [6-Max], $45K GTD’

Rohit ‘igotu1217’ Kumar won $1,396.76 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $44, $20K GTD’

Gaurav ‘Ayya10258’ Ayya won $1,335.41 for 27th place in the PokerStars ‘$215 SundaySupersonic [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $200K GTD’

Tentative 2017 TCOOP Schedule Released

PokerStars upped the excitement quotient for the upcoming New Year by releasing the tentative schedule for the 2017 TCOOP. Players will have extra 15 events to the regular roster, as well as four new types of formats that promise high-octane action.

Signature Campaign Against Goa Casinos By AAP

The AAP launched a signature campaign in Goa, stating that it would cover all 40 constituencies within the next four weeks. The duly signed letter will be sent to Laxmikant Parsekar, Chief Minister asking for a ban on casinos.

Key Dates For PokerStars 2017 Live Events Announced

Live action enthusiasts can now book dates for upcoming PokerStars Championships and PokerStars Festivals in 2017, as the brand has released the schedule for the same. Events are set to unfold starting with a stop in Bahamas, and then moving on to London, Macau and many other locations.

APL Shanghai Shut by Local Authorities

Chinese legal authorities once again disrupted a poker event, causing the second edition of the APL Shanghai to be shut mid-way. The organizers were diplomatic about the shut down, but local forces are believed to have caused the disruption.

Partypoker continued its slew of pro tie-up and the latest to join its team is noted UK player Sam Trickett. The pro will represent the site at live events, besides launching high stakes events called ‘Trickett’s Cash Games’.

New Funders For Baazov’s Amaya Takeover

After a Dubai company refuted David Baazov’s claims for funding, the former CEO of Amaya has found two new investors from Hong Kong. With earlier supporters, Baazov has already collected $4.1 billion of the $6.7 billion required for his bid to privately takeover Amaya.

Hakim Zoufri Wins Master Classics of Poker (MCOP) Main Event

Playing out in Amsterdam last week, the MCOP found a champion in Hakim Zoufri, who took down the Main Event for €275,608, after defeating 365 entries.

Daniel Gilles Wins APT Noumea Main Event

The first-ever APT Noumea XPF 110,000 Main Event saw local player Daniel Gilles claim the title for a payday of XPF 3,402,300, after defeating Joel Douaglin, who made a runner-up finish for XPF 1,990,800.

The WPT Caribbean $5,000 Main Event attracted 323 hopefuls and the last man standing was Niall Farrell, who took home a cash prize of $335,000, despite having started the final table as the second smallest stack.

Alex Aqel had a historic moment at the MSPT Potawatomi, when he claimed his first title for $138,385, which is far more than his combined cashes to date. Aqel made it through a field of 596 entries that included numerous notables.

Travis Hartshorn Wins Borgata Fall Poker Open

Even at the Borgata Fall Poker Open Championship, Travis Hartshorn claimed $302,978, which was almost double his earlier winnings. Heads up lasted almost six hours and saw David Johnston make a second place finish.
