In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

The action escalated this past week, with several developments from new tournaments, to existing ones concluding, the growth of poker in the country, as well as business dealings and charges of fraud on the international front. Each week brings us closer to the exciting PokerGuru Online League (PGOL) that starts on April 6th, and features a whopping INR 35 Lakhs in guaranteed prizes. Spartan Poker today announced an exciting new promo on social media that will give three lucky winners seats worth INR 5,500 each to the INR 20 Lakh GTD PGOL Main Event!

Taking the “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title this week is Jasven Saigal, who made the highest score of $12,307.50 at the PokerStars ‘$1,050 Super Tuesday’ for an eighth place, besides a runner-up finish in the Kolkata Poker Championship (KPC).

In live action, the spotlight will move to the Hippodrome Casino in London for the PokerStars UKIPT from April 5 to 20, with 13 scheduled tournaments including the highlight £770 Main Event.

Poker is flourishing within the country, as was seen by the successful debut of the KPC and a newly revamped Aquarium 7 poker room in Kolkata. A new site, PoKeRMaNiA signed up Jaideep Sajwan as the first Team Pro and in Goa, the Deltin Royale Poker Room management was passed from elder brother Amin Rozani to younger sibling Vasim.

In this edition of our weekly report, we also bring you news on the possibility of poker soon becoming a part of the international body SportAccord and David Baazov, CEO, Amaya facing charges for insider trading. Besides these, there are also tournament reports from the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Harrah’s, ACOP Platinum Series, the first-ever Asian Poker Tour (APT) Daegu and the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT).

Jasven ‘jasven06’ Saigal started off the week with a bang, final tabling the PokerStars ‘$1,050 Super Tuesday’ for $12,307.50 and capped it off with an impressive runner-up finish for INR 3.75 Lakhs in the inaugural KPC. Saigal exited the Super Tuesday, when opponent ‘The Mooks’ called with against his . The board opened and Saigal was out at eighth place. The 574-strong event was ultimately won by ‘AnyGameSir’ of Poland. For his highest score, Saigal makes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”.

Other scores this past week include:

Aditya ‘adikumar2010’ Kumar won PokerStars ‘The Hot $109 (Turbo), $15K GTD’ for $2,802.

arjit’ who made $2,328.69 for a fifth place in the PokerStars ‘The Big $11, $50K GTD’.

Sahil ‘$lim$hady19’ Chutani finished in fourth place at the 888poker ‘The $15,000 Monsoon’ for $1,723.80.

Sumit ‘boronyx’ Sapra scored $1,431.79 for a third place at the PokerStars ‘$27 NL Hold’em [Turbo, Knockout], $15K GTD’.

And, Siddhant ‘raveoholic007’ Kapoor won $1,275.00 for second place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NL Hold’em [Turbo], $6K GTD’.

PokerStars Announces Mountain Series

In the international arena, players will now have a new event, with the PokerStars Mountain Series. A varied map of 10 mountainous events awaits players with buy-ins ranging from low $11 to high $2,100! The series will have a guaranteed $4 Million in prize pools and events named after famous peaks, such as Mt. Everest and Matterhorn!

Successful Debut for Kolkata Poker Championship, Shashwat Agarwal Triumphs

The KPC saw its inaugural edition complete successfully with 58 entries. Shashwat Agarwal won the event for INR 4.35 Lakhs after a deal with Jasven Saigal at heads up, which saw the latter make runner-up for INR 3.75 Lakhs.

Shashwat Agarwal Relaunches BG Poker Room as Aquarium 7

Even as he won the KPC, Shashwat Agarwal announced the opening of the Aquarium 7 poker room, in place of the older BG room in Kolkata. The place has been refurbished in style and sports a massive colourful aquarium in the centre.

Deltin Royale Poker Room Management Now By Vasim Rozani

Amin Rozani, who had taken over the Deltin Royale Poker room in late 2014, has now handed over the management baton to younger brother Vasim. Rozani is moving his focus towards broader marketing horizons and Vasim, who is himself a high-stakes player and has also been part of the team at events like the IPC, will now handle the day-to-day operations at the venue.

A new online site, PoKeRMaNiA has been launched by four poker entrepreneurs and they have signed up Jaideep JDsaz’ Sajwan as their first Team Pro member. Sajwan will collaborate with the brand to increase the team and represent the company in both domestic and international events.

Poker To Be Accepted By SportAccord

Poker is soon gaining respect as a sport and now if all things go as planned, the game will become a part of SportAccord, the umbrella organization for all Olympic and non-Olympic sports. The International Federation of Poker (IPF) is expected to be formally inducted as a member by SportAccord on April 22.

David Baazov, Brother & Accomplices Face Charges Of Insider Trading

David Baazov is in the news again, but for all the wrong reasons, as he has been charged with five counts for illicit trading. Baazov has denied any wrongdoing, but a few days later another report revealed that the authorities had evidence of Baazov passing privileged information to his brother, who in turn gave it to a mutual friend, with all benefitting to a tune of almost $1.5 million.

Robert Kuhn Wins WSOP Circuit Harrah`s Main Event

In a surprise win, Robert Kuhn pocketed the top prize of $122,098 at the WSOPC Harrah’s Main Event. In doing so, he claimed his first gold ring, while denying Ari Engel his eighth.

Ari Engel Claims 8th WSOPC Ring

Ari Engel now has eight WSOPC gold rings after winning Event 7 at the WSOPC Harrah’s stop for $17,221. Engel is tied with Chris Reslock, with both behind Alex Masek, who has nine gold rings.

Jack Wu Wins ACOP Platinum Series XII Main Event

The twelfth installment of the ACOP Platinum Series concluded yesterday with the culmination of its eight scheduled events. The HK $5,500 Main Event was won by Jack Wu for HK $260,850; Wu outlasted the 241-player field that created a prize pool of HK $1,087,030. Wu was on a spree of cashes, as he also collected the title of the opening HK $2,000 Deepstack event for HK $42,640 and made a fifth place finish in Event 7 – HK 5,500 Megastack for HK $34,530.

Event 6 – HK $10,000 NLH drew 73 hopefuls, leading to a prize pool of HK $637,290. Saehoon Lee was the ultimate champion, taking home HK $210,310.

Xixiang Luo won Event 7 – HK 5,500 Megastack (HK $400,000 GTD) for HK $116,530, beating a field of 80 vying for a prize pool of HK $431,650.

APT Daegu

The first-ever APT Daegu has completed Day 2 of its Main Event and Russia’s Sergey Zasorin continued to lead the chip counts with 187,800. The event drew 52 entries competing for a piece of the KRW 25,800,000 prize pool. In all, the stop will play out 17 total events between March 23 to 31.

Keith Heine is Champion of MSPT Main Event

Keith Heine was the champion of the MSPT, $1,100 Main Event for $100,981. Heine, who had prior all-time career money record of just $12,000, overcame an entry field of 409, including notables to claim the title.
