It was a slow week for poker, with the year-end festivities, but action has already begun in Sihanoukville, with the World Poker Tour (WPT) National Cambodia, which began yesterday with a large Indian contingent in attendance. Upping the ante will be the PokerStars Championship Bahamas, which begins on Jan 6 at Nassau, followed by the Aussie Millions, down under, as well as the Asian Poker Tour (APT) 2017 Kickoff event, both starting on Jan 11, 2017!
It certainly promises to be an action-packed year, as domestically, players already have the Mahjong Aquarium Poker Tour (MAPT) ₹1 Crore GTD in late January, which has PokerGuru as its official media partner, so you can catch all the updates right here. There will also be the Deltin Poker Tour (DPT) powered by Adda52, exactly a month later.
Online, players will have the 888poker Super XL Series from January 19 2017, to look forward to along with TCOOP series on PokerStars from Jan 18-29. Raghav Bansal made a winning start this year and claims our ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week’ title for taking down the PokerStars ‘$215 Monday 6-Max, $75K GTD’ for $16,450 earlier today.
News reports this week comprise of the Hotel Ramada filing a petition in the Gujarat High Court for peaceful conduct of poker. Internationally, the Norwegian Poker Challenge was won by Jimmy Hu.
Raghav Bansal has been one of the more consistent performers in 2016, evident from the fact that he features in our the Top 5 lists for 2016 – in both live and online tournaments. Bansal made an impressive start this year, with a big score on the first week itself. He won the PokerStars ‘$215 Monday 6-Max, $75K GTD’ for $16,450 following a heads-up deal with ‘aces_up4180′. He further banked $1,687.36 for 5th place in the PokerStars ‘Big $44, $25K GTD’. For this he takes the ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week’ title.

– ‘effuno99‘ finished third in the PokerStars ‘$11 Sunday Storm, $250K GTD’ for $13,194.12.
– Anmol ‘anmols’ Srivats first scored $2,949.89 for a third place finish in the PokerStars ‘$109 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $25K GTD’ and made another third place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $109, $10K GTD’ for $1,598.05.
– Eka ‘Goforitrejam’ Vedhantham was next with $3,857.71 for a runner-up place in the PokerStars ‘$109 Sunday Starter, $20K GTD’.
– Nishant ‘DoJingBULLET’ Sharma finished 91st in the PokerStars ‘Sunday Million, $1M GTD’ for $1,250.44
– Shravan ‘shravanc13’ Chhabria collected $1,362.23 for sixth place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $44, $50K GTD’.
– Rohit ‘$oulcrusher’ Mittal made a fourth place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $109, $10K GTD’ for $1,185.09.
– Suryakant ‘surya418’ Dash won $1,019.85 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $3.30, $10K GTD’.
– omglukbox won $1,025.10 for 145th place in the PokerStars ‘$215 SUNDAY MILLION, $1M GTD’
Mahjong Aquarium Poker Championship to Debut With 1cr GTD Tournament Series in January
One of the thrilling announcements last week was the launch of the Mahjong Aquarium Poker Championship with INR 1 Crore guaranteed tournament series from Jan 25-29 at the Mayfair Resorts Spa and Casino, Gangtok.

The Deltin Poker Tournament powered by Adda52 returns for its January edition and this time it has increased its prize pool to ₹1.5 crores and will be hosted in Goa on Feb 22, with six challenging events on the menu.

A second petition was filed in the Gujarat High Court, this time by Hotel Ramada, making it the first of its kind. The petition has sought relief from police harassment, while conducting poker games.

Norwegian Poker Challenge Main Event Won by Jimmy Hu
Jimmy Hu, an amateur defeated a field of 337 to claim the Norwegian Poker Challenge Main Event for a winning sum of $84,250. The event was held on board a luxury-liner, while cruising in the Bahamas.
