It’s been a mixed bag for poker and the world the past week, with some exciting developments taking place in the poker world, while humanity struggled to survive as the Mecca of Poker Las Vegas witnessed one of the most brutal attacks in modern history this week when a gunman open fired on an ongoing music concert attended by over 20,000 people through a hotel window. The incident took 58 lives with over 500 left injured.

Goa faced a casino-closure on Gandhi Jayanti but in good news for the operators of offshore casino vessels in the state, the BJP led government has given a six-month extension for relocation of the casinos.

Domestic online poker world was swept away by PokerBaazi’s historic “The Moneymaker” event which shattered all previous records and went on to be a benchmark event right from its debut. The event attracted 800 unique entries with an additional 419 re-entries to take the prize pool to a whopping ₹1.21 crore. The event was taken down by Bengaluru’s Anujkumar ‘aatmaan’ Kodam who after his stupendous performance banked ₹30.47 Lakhs and hence takes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title.

India’s biggest poker site Adda52 had two big announcements in store this week as they revealed the schedule of the official WPT India satellites and also launched a brand new exciting event named Mega Suites with ₹30 Lakhs in guaranteed prizes and ₹10 Lakhs reserved for winner. The event is set to unfold this Sunday (October 8) at 8 pm.

A major story this week was also the announcement of the next three GPL India managers namely Vikram Kumar, Abhishek Rathod and Kavin Shah who all will lead their city based teams.

Besides that, we have tournament reports from the partypoker Powerfest $25K High Roller, WPT Korea 2017 and WSOP Circuit Thunder Valley Main Event.

Refusing to rest on his laurels, Anujkumar ‘aatmaan’ Kodam won ₹30,47,500 after shipping the historic PokerBaazi ‘The MoneyMaker’ event and takes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title.

Haresh ‘narcoss’ Kukreja won ₹4,27,000 for 1st place in the ‘Adda52 Millions’

‘eaglecrest’ won ₹2,60,000 for 1st place in Adda52 ‘Sunday Suits’

Vinay ‘Vinaycdy’ Choudhry won $1,969.68 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘$22 Mini Thursday Thrill [Early Edition, Progressive KO], $25K GTD’

Siddarth ‘gunner9696’ Singhvi won $1,906.51 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘$109 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $12K GTD’ and won $1,659.91 for 9th place in the PokerStars ‘Omania High Roller: $320 PLO [6-Max], $40K GTD’. He also won $1,175.24 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Big $82, $7.5K GTD’

Abhinav ‘abhinaviy550’ Iyer won $1,813.62 for 5th place in the PokerStars ‘Big $55, $50K GTD’ and won $1,085.05 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NLHE [Turbo, Progressive KO], $6K GTD’

Anmol ‘bemyfriendpls’ A Srivats won $1,350.39 for 93rd place in the Party Poker ‘Powerfest #327: Championship Event: $1M GTD’

Praveen ‘praveenmac’ Dwarkanath won $1,281.79 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘Big $22, $8K GTD’

Shravan ‘shravanc13’ Chhabria won $1,276.05 for 7th place in the PokerStars ‘Big $109, $40K GTD’

Ben Tollerene Wins Powerfest $25K High Roller For $846,722

The Powerfest Championship Event: $25,500 Super High Roller with $3M GTD at partypoker attracted 127 runners with the top 12 places getting paid. It was an old-time rivalry show as Ben “CowEyed” Tollerene defeated another online legend Viktor “Isildur1” Blom in the heads-up battle to take down the event pocketing $846,722 in prize money.

Global Poker League India

Global Poker League (GPL) India has recently revealed the next three managers of their city-based teams. PokerBaazi pro Vikram Kumar will helm Chennai Sharks, PokerBaazi pro Abhishek Rathod will manage Ahmedabad Alphas and high stakes cash game pro Kavin Shah will lead Mumbai Jetsetters. GPL CEO Alex Dreyfus has also unveiled GPL’s new logo and launched the official GPL website – www.GPL.com.

Six-Month Extension Given To Offshore Casino Vessels in River Mandovi

The BJP-led coalition government in Goa recently approved a six-month extension to the offshore casino vessels but assured that a policy decision would soon be taken on their relocation from river Mandovi. The state’s CM Manohar Parrikar urged people not to “draw a wrong meaning” on the decision and that it’s in tune with the promises made by him.

According to a few sources, the new location may be the under-construction Mopa International Airport in Pernem.

WPT Korea 2017

The recently concluded WPT Korea 2017 was hosted in the beautiful Jeju Island for the third year this time with the headline Main Event attracting 175 entries. Topping them all was Canada`s Jessica Bian Hong Yang who banked ₩56.992 million (approx. $50,000) for her first-place finish after she defeated Iori Yogo in the heads-up battle.

Meanwhile, Bryan Huang Diwei took down the High Roller event for ₩55.29 million and Kazuki Ikeuchi claimed two side event titles after winning the Head Hunter event and the Shot Clock event.

Nick Pupillo Wins WSOP Circuit Thunder Valley Main Event

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit Thunder Valley Main Event saw a field of 528 hopefuls with the top 54 places getting paid. Chicago’s Nick Pupillo picked up his career`s two biggest cashes in a span of just two weeks and banked $170,286 in prize money after defeating Dann Turner in the heads-up battle.
