In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

It has been another hectic week with big news pouring in from both, the domestic and international arenas. After the world witnessed one of the most brutal attacks in Las Vegas earlier this month, volunteers and well-wishers came to the fore with the GoFundMe campaign already raising over $10.1 million for the victims and their family with a new goal of $15 million set for the fund.

In the aftermath of the incident in Las Vegas, crackdowns continued in Goa as the Goa congress asked for a security review for all the casinos operating in the state.

Social media was recently taken by storm after the sole PokerStars pro from the country Aditya ‘Adi Agarwal’ Agarwal was announced as the manager of Kolkata Creators by GPL India.

Poker buffs can also look forward to Raj & Shilpa Shetty Kundra and IFP promoted Match IPL, which is gearing up for its finale on November 17-18. The league that will take place between eight city-based teams will award ₹3 crores in prizes!

Meanwhile there was plenty on offer for online MTT grinders. One Indian who stood out among the rest this past week was ‘R4Rounder’, who won the inaugural Adda52 Mega Suits for ₹10 Lakhs and for this, he is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”.

A few of our challengers clocked flier miles, as live action moved to the ongoing WPT DeepStacks Netherland. Adda52 pro Kunal Patni, Zarvan Tumboli and Jaydeep Dawer are in attendance and all three made it to Day 2 of the Warm-up event. Tumboli and Patni both extended their deep runs to cash in the event. Tumboli made it to the final table and finished seventh for €2,253 while Patni cashed €811 for his 13th place finish. Notably, WPT and ELC Gaming are hosting their first poker and Esports event at the series.

In other happenings across the globe, partypoker added American pro Jason Koon to it pro team rooster, Phil Galfond launched his DFS site and The O Shaked Shares Trust sold all their stake in 888 holdings.

Online Railbird Report

The magic continued online, as we once again saw a slew of notable scores from our challengers. Topping the cashes list was ‘R4Rounder’ who took down the inaugural Mega Suits event of Adda52 banking a cool ₹10 Lakhs and is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title.

Other notable scores include -  

‘Svensk' won ₹5 lakhs for 1st place in PokerBaazi ‘Baazi Super Sunday’ 

‘spark123’ won ₹2.84 Lakhs for 1st place in Adda52 ‘Sunday Suits’

Akshay 'sherlock52' Nasa won ₹1.26 lakhs for 1st place in PokerBaazi ‘Baazi Super Sunday (5 Lakhs GTD)’ 

Sriharsha ‘indiandurr’ Doddapaneni won $4,058.81 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $215, $50K GTD’ and won $1,298.26 for 26th place in the PokerStars ‘$215 Sunday Warm-Up, $250K GTD’

Sahil ‘$lim$hady19’ Chutani won $3,174.48 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Big $33, $15K GTD’ and won $1,130.84 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $11, $50K GTD’

Vikram ‘thedead parrots’ Singh won $3,018.71 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘Big $44, $20K GTD’

Armaan ‘armaan007’ Kocchar won $1,560.42 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘Big $162, $12K GTD’

Shravan ‘shravanc13’ Chhabria won $1,340.14 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $44, $20K GTD’ and won $1,282.91 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$55 NLHE [Turbo, Deep Stacks], $4K GTD’

Siddarth ‘gunner9696’ Singhvi won $1,275.61 for 9th place in the PokerStars ‘Omania High Roller: $320 NLO8 [6-Max], $20K GTD’ and won $1,100.97 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$55 NLO8 [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $2K GTD’

Arjanveer ‘holdbaby30’ Singh Chadha won $1,251.16 for 8th place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $109, $100K GTD’

Sanjay ‘sanjaytaneja’ Taneja won $1,088.16 for 8th place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $215, $60K GTD’

 

Mega Suits On Adda52

This week, India’s largest poker site Adda52.com introduced their brand-new tournament ‘Mega Suits’ guaranteeing a hefty ₹30 Lakhs in prizes with ₹10 Lakhs GTD reserved for the winner. The event debuted on Sunday, October 8 and attracted 454 unique entries with an additional 255 re-entries to make for a total prize pool of ₹32.61 lakhs. The top 45 places were paid with ‘R4Rounder’ becoming a millionaire after he defeated ‘Dhawal24’ in the heads-up battle.

Las Vegas Massacre

In one of the most unfortunate and brutal attacks in modern history, Las Vegas turned red on October 1, when 64-year-old Stephen Craig Paddock, used long-range rifles from a room in the Mandalay Bay hotel to unleash a carnage of bullets at a music concert happening outside in the Las Vegas Strip. The incident led to at least 58 people dead with over 500 people wounded.

There was a lot of solidarity shown by supporters and well-wishers alike from around the world. A GoFundMe campaign also named The Las Vegas Victims' Fund page started by Steve Sisolak has already collected $10.1 million to help the victims of the attack and their families.

Goa Debacles

Goa continued to make news and this time, the Goa Congress demanded for a Security Review for all casinos in the state in the wake of the recent Las Vegas massacre. However, Goa CM Manohar Parrikar has already ruled out the security review saying guns are more easily available in Las Vegas, as compared to Goa.

Match IPL Gears Up for Grand Finale in November

In order to change the perception of poker in India, Raj and Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s promoted Viaan Industries Limited has signed an agreement with IFP to launch Match Indian Poker League.The inaugural league’s grand finale is set to unfold in November where eight city-based teams will compete for prizes worth ₹3 crores.

WPT and ELC Gaming Host First Poker and Esports Event At WPT Netherlands

The World Poker Tour (WPT) teamed up with ELC Gaming, the European division of Allied Esports to bring an integrated poker and esports event in Valkenburg, Netherlands at the ongoing WPT DeepStacks Netherlands.

ELC Gaming’s 18-wheel mobile esports arena “Big Betty” is onsite providing exciting opportunities to win seats for the poker tournaments and esports competitions.

Notably, India’s Kunal Patni, Zarvan Tumboli and Jaydeep Dawer are in attendance at the event with all three making Day 2 of the Warm-up event. Tumboli managed to make the final table and eventually finished seventh for €2,253. Patni also managed to cash and finished 13th for €811.

partypoker Adds Jason Koon to Its Pro Team Line-up

partypoker recently extended their line-up of team pros after American poker pro Jason Koon joined its pro rooster. Koon has amassed over $10 million in live tournament cashes since 2008 and will also serve on the site’s new advisory panel.

The O Shaked Shares Trust recently sold its entire stake (46,283,534 ordinary shares representing 12.9% stake) in 888 Holdings that owns brands such as 888poker.

Phil Galfond Launches New DFS Site Draftboard

Phil Galfond recently launched his new daily fantasy sports site called Draftboard with the CEO position taken by Dan Quinn. The site opened on September 27 and offers similar games present other popular fantasy sports sites. As part of an early promotion, the site is giving new sign-ups $1 to try out the platform.

Smain Mamouni Wins 2017 PMU.fr WPT DeepStacks Marrakech Main Event

The recently concluded 2017 PMU.fr WPT DeepStacks Marrakech MAD 13,200Main Event drew 433 entries creating a MAD 4,949,600 prize pool. The event drew the biggest field for the tournament series outside of American soil and was topped by France-based Smain Mamouni. He banked MAD 1,000,000 (approx. $105,000), WPT DeepStacks trophy and a €2,000 package to the WPT DeepStacks Final in Berlin in January 2018.

Art Papazyan Wins WPT Maryland Main Event

The WPT Maryland at Live Casino! $3,500 Main Event attracted 561 entries and topping them all was Art Papazyan who pocketed the $389,405 top prize. Papazyan picked up his second WPT title in a span of just five weeks and becomes the eighth WPT champion to win multiple titles in the same season.

Joe Gotlieb Wins 2017 WSOP Circuit Seminole Hard Rock Main Event

The 2017 World Series of Poker Circuit Hard Rock $1,675 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event drew 904 runners and the last man standing was 52-year-old Joe Gotlieb from Hollywood who defeated WPT 2015 champion Asher Conniff to capture his first WSOPC gold ring and the $257,638 first-place prize.

Matt Paten Wins HPT Ameristar St. Charles 

The $1,650 Heartland Poker Tour Ameristar St. Charles attracted 338 hopefuls with the top 36 players making it in the money. Local player Matt Paten topped the field and pocketed $110,386 for his finish. Also in the spotlight was the king of the HPT, Craig Casino who fell just short of his third title in second place.
