In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

It was a week choc-a-bloc with several live poker tournaments hosted globally, developments, and important news reports. The APPT Macau 2018 has been the headline this past week. The series that began on March 14 will conclude on March 25 and has already witnessed staggering numbers and even a historic win by a power couple. The star from the Indian camp was undoubtedly PokerStars pro Aditya Agarwal who is currently going strong on Day 3 of the Main Event and is chip leading the 52 survivors with 41 set to make money. Ashish Gupta (213,800), Sumit Sapra (119,000), and Sahil Chutani (50,400) have all made it to Day 3 as well.

On the online front, stealing the limelight was Young Gun Danish Shaikh. Shaikh has already gained a reputation as one of the finer online players in country, and it is no surprise that he took down the biggest poker events on both Adda52 and PokerBaazi! Shaikh made a cumulative score of ₹11.91 Lakhs and is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”.

In other important headlines this past week, we bring you news of Goa’s Barge Owners Association blocking the Mandovi river navigation channel, Match IPL Team Haryana Hawks signing PokerBaazi as its title sponsor and a one-of-a-kind promotion currently underway at 9stacks that is offering players a chance to play the WSOP 2018 Main Event for free.

There is plenty of poker to look forward to this week both live and online. Apart from APPT Macau 2018, the European Poker Tour (EPT) Sochi kicked off on March 20 and will play through March 29 where India’s Vivek Rughani is confirmed to be in attendance. Also running alongside APPT Macau 2018 is the APT Philippines Championships 2018 which got underway on March 21 at Resorts World Manila.

On the online front, the High Rollers series on PokerStars got underway on March 18 and will conclude on March 26. Another important announcement just in from PokerStars, is a rake change for MTT’s that will take effect from Monday. Meanwhile, 888poker and One Drop have joined hands to host the debut World Water Day Online Tournament that will take place today at 8:00 p.m. GMT on 888poker.

In international tournament, we have reports from APPT Macau 2018, WSOP Circuit Rozvadov Main Event, 2018 WSOP Circuit Bicycle Casino Main Event and WPTDeepStacks Jacksonville Main Event.

Online players had a great platter of scintillating events to choose from this past week as usual and the one who cemented his name on the top position was Danish ‘King0fMerge’ Shaikh. Shaikh was an unstoppable force this week as hewon ₹8.91 Lakhs for 1st place in the ‘Adda52 Millions’. Shaikh also managed to ship the PokerBaazi ‘Baazi Super Sunday (₹15 Lakhs GTD) (SuperStack)’ where he plays under the moniker ‘Pagla’ and pocketed ₹3 Lakhs for his finish. Aditya ‘Adi Agarwal’ Agarwal won $7,396.38 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $215, $100K GTD’ and won $1,175.76 for 5th place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $162, $12K GTD’

Vinay ‘vinayb’ B won ₹2.76 Lakhs for 1st place in the Adda52 ‘Sunday Suits’

‘neednoluc’ won $2,665.56 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $109, $8K GTD’

Armaan ‘armaan007’ Kochhar won $2,480.81 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$11 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $12K GTD’

Vineet ‘vineetpoker’ Kumar won $1,351.69 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Hotter $27, $10K GTD’

‘Royal9stackers’ won ₹35,000 for 1st place in the 9stacks ‘Sunday Stack’

PokerStars High Rollers Series

The PokerStars High Rollers series kicked off on March 18 and has crowned 10 champions till date. The series will conclude on March 26.

Goa Barge Owners Association Protests, Casino Operations Unaffected

Goa made news this past week as on March 19, the Goa Barge Owners Association blocked the Mandovi river navigation channel in order to protest against the government’s failure in providing relief to those affected after closure of mining operations in the state post the Supreme Court’s order. It was speculated that the protests would affect the operations of the offshore casinos but as per reports from the Casinos, no disruption in services took place.

APPT Macau 2018

This past week was all about the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) 2018 at the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room in the stunning City of Dreams where a sizeable Team India is busy making waves. The series got underway on March 14 and will conclude on March 25.

The 12-day series features 26 exciting events and will be awarding four coveted Platinum Passes. The show stopper event of the series i.e. the Main Event is now on its Day 3 with India’s Team PokerStars pro Aditya Agarwal chip leading the 52 survivors, Ashish Gupta (213,800), Sumit Sapra (119,000), and Sahil Chutani (50,400) all made Day 3 as well.

The event saw a total of 153 runners on Day 1A and 179 players on Day 1B to take the entry count to 332. On Day 2, before the late registration got over, an additional 24 entries got in to take the total field size to 356 entries, generating a HK$12,984,032 prize pool.

The first Platinum Pass of the series was awarded to 30-year-old Chinese stockbroker Shuize Cai who took down the APPT National event for HK$1,293,200 and claimed the Platinum Pass. India’s Sahil Chutani narrowly missed the final table with an 11th place finish for HK$78,200 (~₹6.48 lakhs). Kolkata’s Arjjun Singh finished 59th for HK$21,700 (~₹1.79 lakhs).

Meanwhile, Kristen Bicknell created history by becoming the first female player ever to clinch a High Roller title at the series after she won the APPT National High Roller event. If that was not enough, her boyfriend Alex Foxen shipped the highest buy-in event of the series i.e. HK$400,000 Super High Roller for HK$7,560,000.

Amar Begovic Wins WSOP Circuit Rozvadov Main Event

The €1,650 WSOP International Circuit Rozvadov Main Event saw a field of 796 runners and besting them all was Amar Begovic who netted his biggest score till date of €220,000 along with his first WSOP Circuit gold ring. Begovic defeated Timur Margolin heads-up and also won a seat into the WSOP Global Casino Championship for his finish.

David Pham Wins 2018 WSOP Circuit Bicycle Casino Main Event

Three-time WSOP bracelet winner David ‘The Dragon’ Pham won the 2018 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Bicycle Hotel and Casino’s $1,675 NLHE Main Event for $216,790 after navigating through a field of 705 entries. Pham defeated Tom Braband heads-up to win his second Main Event title this year.

Jonathan Cronin Wins WPTDeepStacks Jacksonville Main Event

The WPTDeepStacks Jacksonville $1,500 Main Event found a champion in Georgia-based Jonathan Cronin who claimed the top prize of $107,386. The event attracted a total 372 runners and surpassed its advertised guarantee of $300,000 easily as the total prize pool amounted to just over $500,000 with the top 47 places making it in the money.
