In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

It seems to be a vibrant season for poker, with several live and online opportunities lining up along with several accolades already in the bag for our Indian challengers.

Concentrating on the eastern hemisphere, Manila is currently the epicenter of live poker activity, as players from all over Asia including a strong contingent from India are busy at the first-ever PokerStars Festival Manila. The series certainly started with a strong Indian impact, as our players have picked up an impressive four titles already. Viren Kapur took down the PokerStars Open event while Singapore based Dhanesh Chainani took down the ₱11,000 NLH – Knock Out event pocketing ₱169,400 and went on to ship the ₱16,500 No-Limit Hold’em – 6 Handed event for ₱198,000; PokerMet pro Dhaval Mudgal made a deep run in the event too while Keshav Chadha final tabled the Super Deep event.

Aditya Sushant won his first Spadie in the ₱22,000 Open Face Chinese Pineapple event after defeating Japanese player Katsushima Shinji.

Another, albeit smaller Indian contingent including PokerBaazi pro Vikram Kumar, Sumit Sapra, Vatsal Thirani and Jay Ninama are in the thick of action at Hope Cup that is being hosted at the Babylon Casino in Macau.

The online cash registers were ringing all through the week with several Indians consistently netting good scores. Topping the list was Raghu ‘Spine619’ Ram Krishna who takes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title.

And online poker players are spoilt for options this week. PokerMet headlines the promotions list this week with not one but two massive giveaways. Starting today is the new “War of Zehn” tournament series. The 10-event long series is giving away a cumulative ₹50 lakhs in prizes and you can get in for FREE by simply making a nominal deposit of ₹300. That’s not all as PokerMet is also giving the finest of luxury cars to its top three kings.

Netherland`s ‘ElCheikhh’ took down the Micro Millions main event for a massive $95,829.86 payday and Brazilian player ‘gkamei09’ won the ChampionChips main event pocketing $14,189 for his first-place finish.

In international news, there are stories about Paysafe group getting a £2.9 billion offer, 888poker becoming this year`s WSOPE Main Sponsor, Poker Central announcing a new week-long high Poker Masters high roller series & PokerStars releasing the schedule for 2017 ACOP.

 

Online Railbird Report

Online felts certainly heated up this week with several new as well as familiar faces making notable scores. Topping the list was Raghu ‘Spine619’ Ram Krishna who shipped the PokerStars ‘$10K Payday [Phase 2/2], $100K GTD’ event winning a cool $13,730.91.

Other notable scores include –

Aditya ‘adikumar2010’ Kumar won $9,808.05 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘$10K Payday [Phase 2/2], $100K GTD’

Prabhat ‘SuicideSpree’ Mukherjea won $7,938.12 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $215, $60K GTD’ and won $1,501.39 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$16.50 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $6K GTD’. Mukherjea recently also made $1,581.63 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $7.5K GTD’

Anmol ‘anmols’ A Srivats won $7,743.61 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Big $22, $80K GTD’

Romit ‘full_83_tilt’ Advani won $3,549.25 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $44, $50K GTD’

Prabhakar ‘arhanthai’ Singh won $2,240.10 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $16.50, $10K GTD’

Raghav ‘Rossoneri23’ Bansal won $1,424.70 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘$320 NLHE [6-Max], $10K GTD’

 

PokerStars Micro Millions

The weekend also saw the culmination of the PokerStars MicroMillions Main Event with Netherland’s ‘ElCheikhh’ outlasting the huge field of 85,090 players for a massive $95,829.86 payday.

 

888poker ChampionChips Series

888poker’s micro stakes ChampionChip Series’ main event also played out and attracted 2,534 players. The event generated a prize pool of almost $100,000 i.e. nearly double the guarantee and outlasting them all was Brazilian player ‘gkamei09’ who pocketed $14,189 for his first-place finish.

 

PokerStars Announces New ‘Time to Act’ Settings

In another major move by the online giant PokerStars, the poker site has started trials of the new “Time to Act” settings on its micro stakes ring games from July 31. The changes will now provide participants 12 seconds to act pre-flop if not facing a raise and 15 seconds to act pre-flop if facing a raise or post-flop.

 

Top Three PokerMet Kings Get to Ride King Style

India-facing poker site PokerMet continues their royal theme as they announced a new promo that has the finest of luxury cars up for grabs for the first three PokerMet Kings. The Kings are to be decided on the basis of MET Points collected by playing cash games.

 

Mad Over Poker Set to Launch on August 3 & Signs Zarvan Tumboli as First Team Pro

Joining the growing breed of online poker sites in the country is Mad Over Poker (MOP) that is launching on August 3. The site has already roped in poker pro Zarvan Tumboli as their first team pro and announced an exciting free entry tournament on its launch day named The Loot, that will give away ₹5 Lakhs in guaranteed prizes.

PokerStars Festival Manila

PokerStars is truly gunning to capture live players across the globe as the City of Dreams casino in Manila is currently hosting the inaugural PokerStars Festival Manila. The series started from July 28 and is slated to run till August 7, 2017 at the $1.2 Billion Casino.

The inaugural event of the series i.e. PokerStars Open registered a total 451 entries and outlasting them all was Indian challenger Viren Kapur who pocketed ₱1,001,000 (~₹12,69,832).

Singapore based Indian origin player Dhanesh Chainani further continued the hot run by clinching two side event titles and India’s first WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant took down another event. Meanwhile Dhaval Mudgal and Keshav Chadha made final table finishes in side events.

2017 Asia Championship of Poker Schedule Released

PokerStars Live Macau officially released its schedule for the 2017 Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) that is slated to run from October 13-29. The schedule features 24 ACOP title events headlined by the HK$100,000 Main Event, guaranteeing a whopping HK$25 million prize pool.

Paysafe Group Gets £2.9 Billion Bid Offer

CVC Capital Partners and investment group Blackstone expressed their interest in buying Paysafe Group. The two companies approached Paysafe in May and the Group has confirmed that it received a conditional offer from them that values the business at £2.9 billion.

 

888poker to be Main Sponsor for WSOP Europe

The official sponsor of the 2017 WSOP – 888poker, will also be the main sponsor of the 2017 WSOP Europe festival to be held at King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic between October 19 and November 10.The series will see a total 11 bracelet events in the schedule.

 

Poker Masters High Roller Series Announced by Poker Central

Poker Central recently announced a week-long high-stakes poker series named The Poker Masters to be hosted at the luxe Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas this September. Poker Central, the parent company of online poker-content provider PokerGO, gathered up a bunch of usual events to make the mini-series and will stream the action on PokerGO.

 

Aik Chuan Wins APT Philippines 2017 Main Event

The APT Philippines Main Event is done and dusted and claiming the title was none other than defending champion Malaysia’s Aik Chuan, who became the first-ever back-to-back APT champion! He was awarded the PHP 1,001,000 (approx. $19,750) first prize and the APT Championship Ring.
