In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

This week has been all about the WSOP Main Event as the biggest story this past week was undoubtedly Scott Blumstein who is now better referred to as the 2017 World Champion. The 25-year old online grinder from New Jersey took down the 2017 WSOP Main Event for a life-changing $8.15 million payday!

The Indian contingent that flew to be a part of this magnanimous event is back to the pavilion with its closure and didn’t waste any time to unwind from the hectic schedule and flew straight to Goa.

Things certainly weren’t too dull back home with Goa playing host to the domestic poker extravaganza Deltin Poker Tournament with a deluge of outstation players flying in for the tournaments, we definitely saw some high-octane action this past weekend. While, Rajnish Kumar won the 75K High Roller Event for ₹32.47 Lakhs, Nitin Gupta claimed the 35K Main Event Title for ₹28.06 Lakhs.

After ages it seems, we saw an action-packed week online with regulars coming out in full force to make multiple scores and topping them all was Young Gun Sahil Chutani. Chutani or ‘$lim$hady19’ as his online moniker goes by, who won over $13K for his runner up finish place in the PokerStars ‘$22 Double Deuce [Turbo], $100K GTD’ and takes our PokerGuru Star of The Week’ title.

In Goa, the political dilemma on the Casino issues continued with several developments taking place. Starting with the sixth casino vessel that may leave for repairs soon, NCP MLA Churchill Alemao alleged that casinos are fixed and demanded high entry fees for locals while Goa High Court restrained government from issuing new casino licenses.

Domestic online poker sites have recently launched some very attractive promotions, promising exciting action in the days to come. While PokerBaazi’s Grinder Series concluded this week, the site announced the dates for its largest-ever PPL tournament series. Khelo365 is currently hosting massive daily and weekly freerolls promising Lakhs every month. India`s largest online poker site Adda52 also revealed the schedule for its premier Adda52 Millions series which is returning later this week and offers a humongous ₹1 crore prize pool. That’s not all; the much-awaited PokerMet’s War of Zehn weekly tournament series is also set to kick off on August 2.

In international news, 2017 Poker Hall of Fame inductees were announced with poker superstars Phil Ivey & David Ulliott joining the elite club. Online giant PokerStars added two more online streamers to their rooster namely Fintan Hand & Benjamin Spragg.

PokerStars MicroMillions continues to headline the online micro-stakes MTT action while 888poker’s ChampionChips series is set to begin on July 27 guaranteeing at least $150,000 in prizes across four days.

Meanwhile, APT Philippines 2017 also crowned its Main Event champion in Aik Chuan who achieved the feat back-to-back pocketing PHP 1,001,000 (approx. $19,750) for first prize and collected his second APT Championship Ring.

Up next is the PokerStars Festival Manila series that is slated to run from July 28 – August 7.

It was finally a decent week of business for the online grinders and we have some big scores to report from the virtual felt. The one that takes the precedence above all others comes from Young Gun Sahil ‘$lim$hady19’ Chutani who banked $13,250.04 for his 2nd place finish in the PokerStars ‘$22 Double Deuce [Turbo], $100K GTD’.

Other notable scores include –

Anmol ‘anmols’ A Srivats won $2,389.03 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $44, $50K GTD’ and won $1,238.39 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Big $82, $7.5K GTD’. He also won $1,578.42 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $27, $6K GTD’ and won $1,121.87 for 2nd place in the Party Poker ‘Heavyweight: $5K GTD PKO Freezeout’. Srivats recently made won $1,008.61 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NLO8 [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $3K GTD’.

Sriharsha ‘índiandurr’ Doddapaneni won $2,175.20 for 14th place in the PokerStars ‘$1,050 Thursday Thrill [Progressive KO], $325K GTD’

Vinay ‘vinaycdy’ Choudhry won $1,363.47 for 6th place in the PokerStars $27 Saturday Eliminator [Progressive KO], $80K GTD’

Vineet ‘vineetpoker’ Kumar won $1,348.75 for 1st place in the 888 Poker ‘The $4,000 Typhoon’

Karan ‘Karan Radia’ Radia won $1,075.00 for 1st place in the 888 Poker ‘The $5,000 Turbo Swordfish’

Fellow countryman Dan Ott made a runner-up finish banking $4,700,000 (~INR 30.26 crores) while Frenchman Benjamin Pollak took third place for $3,500,000 (~INR 22.53 crores).

DPT July 2017

The domestic action-packed poker extravaganza Deltin Poker Tournament’s (DPT) July Edition kept the players busy in Goa and the series was a resounding success with large turnouts in all events.

Vishal Tulsyan outlasted the 243-entry field of the ₹15K Kickoff event for ₹9,74,300 and Adda52 Team Pro Kunal Patni took down the 7K Warm Up online event banking ₹3 Lakhs.

The costliest event of the series i.e. 75K High Roller attracted a strong 162 runner field and topping them all was Rajnish Kumar who collected a cool ₹32.47 Lakhs for his finish.

The highlight of the series was the 35K Main Event which saw a massive 300 player field and the Main Event champion title was claimed by a new face in the circuit – Nitin Gupta who won ₹28,06,600 for first place purse.

The series concluded after its final leg of side events got in the books and the last of winners in this edition were Gagandeep Malik, Sunita Sundar & PokerBaazi Team pro Jasven Saigal. Malik won the Bounty event for ₹6,58,000, Sundar took down the ₹10K Ladies event for ₹70,000 while Saigal claimed the ₹15K PLO event title banking ₹4,44,000.

Churchill Alemao Demands High Entry Fee for Locals Entering Casinos

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Churchill Alemao raised concerns over locals entering the casinos demanding that there should be an entry fee of at least ₹5,000 if they want to enter casinos. He also asked the CM Manohar Parrikar to look at the payout ratio and how the roulette tables are ‘fixed’ in casinos.

Sixth Offshore Vessel May Move Out For Repairs & HC Restrains Govt From Issuing New Casino Licenses

The sixth offshore casino vessel MV Lucky Seven will most likely be taken out of Goa to a dry dock to assess the damage occurred after it got stuck at a sandbar in Aguada Bay. In another major blow, high court of Bombay in Goa temporarily restrained the State Government from issuing any new casino licenses without its permission.

Goa Government Keen to Move Offshore Casinos

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar again expressed his reservations about operations of casinos in the state saying that they are keen to remove casinos out of River Mandovi and will soon release orders. He although stated that there was no co-relation between the casino industry and the state’s crime rate.

PokerStars Festival Korea

Asia’s first-ever PokerStars Festival Korea hosted at Paradise City, Incheon is now in the books and was a huge success with over 1,800 players from 25 countries in attendance.

The ₩4,350,000 High Roller event drew a total of 62 entries (34 unique players) and outlasting them all was Boyuan Qu who pocketed his career best ₩72,160,000 (approx. $64,000) for his finish.
