Rohit Bhalla Takes Lead On Day 1A of IPC 10K Kickoff

Spartan Poker Team Mentor Rohit Bhalla (cover image) emerged as the chip leader at the end of Day 1A of the IPC Dec 10K Kickoff event with a stack of 200,000 chips. It was a timely triple-up, just 15 minutes before the day ended that got Bhalla the huge lead. Estonia`s Taivo Sillaste, bagged the second largest stack and is a good 60K behind Bhalla with 140,000. Abhisek Panda stands at third place with 135,500 chips.

204 players signed up for Day 1A of the event and of these, only 18 remained for Day 2. This event will be the only one this IPC, with a 3-day structure. In overview, Day 1A seemed more like an elimination round and organizers are expecting a larger Day 1B field today, which should include re-entries from those eliminated on Day 1A.

 

Day 1A Recap

The event began with Peter Abraham, Co-Founder, IPC inviting Amit Jain to start the proccedings. Jain did the honors stating, ‘Welcome to the 10K event of the grand finale of IPC, this has always been a great part of IPC. So dealers get ready and let’s shuffle up and deal’.

The newly renamed Deltin Royale Poker Lounge witnessed a huge crowd of players, including some well known names like Danish Shaikh, Rahul Melwani, Vidwath Shetty, Vikram Kumar, Shravan Chhabria, Uday Patil, Kanishka Samant, Dhaval Mudgal, Jaideep Sajwan, Laveena Belani, Aditya Sushant, Prabhakar Che, Avinash Tauro, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Bobbe Suri and YJ Kim, besides yesterday’s finalists Denis CH, Kunal Patni, Anil Gulati and Viru Dahiya.

The eliminations began within minutes and among those to hit the rails early on were Praveen Agarwal, Amit ‘bblacklegend’ Jain, and Haresh Kukreja.

Taivo Sillaste could be seen making aggressive moves almost immediately, as he eliminated two players in a go. Among the others consolidating his stack was Kunal Patni. Within two and a half hours, the field was decimated to just 80 players, with Kulwinder Singh Jolly having the lead with 57,000 in chips.

Bhalla’s forge ahead became evident by 11pm, when he eliminated Sandeep Singh. The Spartan Team mentor opened 2,500 with and Singh announced all-in from the cutoff holding . The board read out that opened a straight on the community, but Bhalla`s queen-high got him a higher straight and he eliminated Singh.

Barely 15 minutes before the day was to end, Bhalla got in a double up, profiting from Kulvinder Singh Jolly. Bhalla open shoved for 30,000 and Jolly called.

The board displayed and Bhalla rivered a full house to double up! Not done, Bhalla went on to triple up, eliminating Arun Karthik in the process.

Finally Day 1A ended with the elimination of Rajeev Raut by Clawin D’Souza in 19th place.

The board ran out and Clawin took down the pot, eliminating Raut in 19th place and ending the proceedings at the opening flight of the event.
