PokerGuru is proud to welcome Indian Poker Pros Raman Gujral and Rohit Bhalla as mentors on the PokerGuru Pro Team. They will join team mentor Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal in leading the team and travelling the Domestic and International Tournament Poker circuit. In addition, the new mentors will be making poker strategy videos and contributing to articles on the website. You can read about their pursuits on their blogs exclusively on PokerGuru and ask them questions and hand advice on the PokerGuru Forums!

Raman Gujral: Raised in Chandigarh, Raman moved to the US to pursue a degree in computer engineering. He graduated from UCLA with a degree in Mathematics of Computations and started working for a day trading firm in LA as a scalper. When the firm shut down their LA operations, he was asked to move to Vegas and trade from his mentorÂ’s home. “There I got a chance to learn more about poker from poker pros who would come to our place to learn trading from my mentor. In 2003 I started grinding online SNGs on Party Poker and PokerStars – play money at first and then low buy in ones. I deposited $50 in my Party Poker account and moved up in stakes fairly quickly, and soon, it was hard to think of doing anything else for a living. Over the next few years I played almost everything online – cash games, MTTs, SNGs, HU tourneys, HU cash” – commented Raman on how he got started in poker.

He continued his poker journey with his first trip to Goa – “In early 2010 I came to Goa for an IPRT tournament which I happened to win but more importantly, the trip introduced me to the cash game scene in Goa. I was introduced to Craig Wildman and Phillip Sanders who had been doing an excellent job of bringing poker to India and still continue to do so. In my opinion, they deserve a lot of credit for the growth of poker in India, and their Casino Royale poker room is by far the most professionally managed place to play live in India. They were both very supportive and I moved to Goa soon after and have been playing cash games since.”

After settling in Goa to play poker, Raman inevitably got acquainted with the PokerGuru Team – “PokerGuruÂ’s presence in the poker scene in India has been growing ever since I came to Goa and after spending some time with Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal and his team of PokerGuru Pros, getting associated with them was just a matter of time. In a job environment full of hustlers, they are such a fantastic bunch of guys – all of them Â… funny, easy going, talented and motivated and trustworthy. IÂ’d like to thank them for this opportunity and look forward to contributing through forums, blogs and strategy articles.”

Rohit Bhalla: Based in Noida, Rohit has an impressive resume which includes an MBA in Finance and 5 years work experience in the financial sector – Treasury advisory and Investment banking. As most people, he started playing poker online as an amateur and loved it. He has been playing poker for 3 years now and in January 2010, he decided to turn Pro. Today, he frequently travels to Goa and Macau for cash games, playing all stakes starting from INR 100-200 in Goa to HKD 300-600 in Macau. You can find him mostly at the high stakes NLHE or PLO games at the Goa poker rooms.

Rohit has quite a few great tournament finishes, even though he has played a limited number of higher buy-in events in Goa:

1st place in IPS chapter 1 Main Event in April 2010

      3rd place in Casino Royale’s 1 lac buy-in freezeout in May 2010

3rd place in PGT’s inaugral Main Event in Sep 2011

4th place in Aces Unlimited Main Event in Nov 2011

Witnessing how the poker scene in India has developed and flourished, Rohit was impressed by PokerGuru: “Pokerguru has done a great job over the last few months in developing a brand which stands out in the fast growing Indian poker market. A localized poker news portal combined with a player friendly tournament series are all steps in the right direction. These are exciting times for poker players in India and I am flattered to have this opportunity to work with the best in the field, led by team mentor Aditya ‘Intervention’ Agarwal. My focus will be to provide detailed insights into being a professional poker player from India and work with the team in the development of quality poker strategy material for the website. I am looking forward to interacting with all Pokerguru members on a regular basis!”

The PokerGuru Team, led by Raman, Rohit and Intervention, will be making a stop at the PokerStars sponsored APPT Macau Season 5 Tournament series in Macau. Catch the updates on the Pro Team on http://www.pokerguru.in and read about their experiences in their blogs exclusively on PokerGuru!
