Business as usual in poker world, especially at PokerStars saw the brand sign up with online content provider, Microgaming for new casino products. That makes for our first story in this edition of PokerGuru 3-Bet. The second is of contemporary partypoker signing on John Duthie in a five-year deal and the third is a tournament report from the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) New Orleans won by Seth Foster.

Microgaming PokerStars Partner For Online Casino Content

In the first such deal of its kind this year, PokerStars has signed up with Microgaming for online casino content through its Quickfire gaming platform. The new content is expected to hit PokerStars clients by mid-2017 in its new offering of online casino games and will be available at desktops and mobiles.

The move is in keeping with PokerStars business strategy of diversifying its portfolio, which was earlier only focused on online poker. Since the past few years, the company has consistently initiated changes to attract more clients, including the larger recreational base of players, with more interesting formats and several other products, besides basic poker.

The Rational Group, parent company of PokerStars has finally begun to reap the benefits of the business strategy, with its revenues for the third quarter of 2016, registering an increase of 9.5% year-on-year with $270.8 million.

Partypoker Signs Up John Duthie in a 5-Year Deal

John Duthie, Founder and former CEO of the European Poker Tour (EPT), as well as an accomplished poker player himself, has been signed on by partypoker in a five-year deal. Duthie will be president of the company’s new brand, partypoker LIVE, which was launched in January, 2017.

Duthie won the Poker Million in 2000 and has more than $3.2 million in live tournament earnings.

Confirming the news, he told the media “I still love the game just as much as the first time I saw my first flop and I believe this passion will help partypoker LIVE become the largest and most fun poker tour in the world. I plan to enjoy myself immensely working with and meeting old friends.”

Duthie went on to state, “I believe there is a gap in the market for an operator whose primary focus is poker and who will listen to and work with the poker community, as this was something that was absolutely key to the growth and success of the EPT.”

Tom Waters, Managing Director, partypoker was ecstatic at the tie-up and said, “Very few people in the world have made such a significant contribution to poker and his experience, relationships and understanding of players will be a huge asset to us.”

partypoker LIVE has already announced its schedule for several stops, with events starting at $1K buy-in to $200 and more.

Announced Schedule

Seth Foster Wins HPT New Orleans For $59,891

Seth Foster collected his career’s highest score, when he took down the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Boomtown New Orleans for $59,891. With this Foster took his live cash earnings to above the $3 million mark and also gained the HPT bracelet. He already has a World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit ring.

Allan Kessler, more known for his rants on Twitter made a second place finish for $38,279.

The event attracted 275 hopefuls and just the top 31 finishers made the money. Foster almost lost it all just before the final table, when his tens failed before Jonathan Hart’s card 2 card 3 all-in preflop. However, in the nick of time he recovered with his ace-queen overcoming Phillip Treaudo’s ace-king.

Foster started out as mid-stack, but moved aggressively to eliminate Turk Dursun at eighth place and took the chip lead. He went on to bust Jeff Sager with eights against the latter’s ace-queen.

A crucial hand saw Foster increase his lead, when Ed Sebesta went all-in with card 2 card 2 on a flop of card 1 card 1 card 3. Foster called with card 1 card 1 and the card 3 on the river sent Sebesta out at third.

Heads up saw Kessler lagging behind and soon it was over, when his pocket fives were overrun by Foster’s nines on a board that was blank and he was relegated to second place.
