Phil Galfond Blogs on the Delay in the Launch of Run It Once Poker, Announces Phase 1 Launch This Summer

It has been a year and seven months since Phil Galfond blogged about his plans to start a real money online poker site on his training site RunItOnce.com. At that time, Galfond wrote that the site will be of immense value to recreational, semi-professional as well as professional poker players and will focus on honesty, transparency, and "should be held accountable for the decisions it makes.".

Cut to Thursday, April 12, a new blog post appeared on RunItOnce named, “An Update and a Plan”

Galfond clarified the reason of the delay in the launch of the Run It Once Poker site and why the community has not heard any update about the site, he stated, “Our software delays weren’t the typical delays that come with the territory. We made some significant missteps early in our software development and it set us on a course that’s been very difficult to navigate.”

Galfond mentioned about the leadership changes in the organization and further wrote, “As a new plan was being developed and as we wrestled with our options, I didn’t know what kind of update I could offer you all. So I kept quiet, even once we chose our path, because after my experience with the first announcement, I didn’t want to make any promises that I couldn’t keep.”

Galfond went on to clarify that the launch of Run It Once Poker will be accomplished in 2 phases. He then delivered the big news that the target launch for Phase 1 is this summer and the site will offer only cash games on launch with MTT`s to be added later in Phase 2.

He wrote, “We will set sensible rake for sustainable and beatable games. We’ll be offering a unique cash game experience, focused on fun and on pure, authentic poker.”

Tournaments will be added in Phase 2 and will include “General software enhancements, more user options, a distinct SNG offering, an innovative tournament experience and awesome nosebleed stakes offering, with several unique ideas from someone who's played these games for a long time and thinks he knows what they need!”

Galfond summed it all up in three words, “Long Live Poker”

partypoker Removes Rake on Bounty Element of PKO MTT`s From May 6

partypoker Managing Director Tom Waters in a blog post yesterday announced the site`s decision to remove rake on the bounty element from all Progressive Knockout (PKO) MTT`s with effect from May 6, coinciding with the start of the $40M GTD POWERFEST series.

Walters went on to explain that the decision was based on feedback from the poker community and lobbying from Team partypoker pro Patrick Leonard and will be a policy change that the site will try out for six months with an intention to make this a permanent reduction in the future.

“After reviewing feedback from the poker community and lobbying from Patrick Leonard, we will remove rake on the bounty element on all our PKO MTTs with effect from Sunday 6th May, in time for our Powerfest PKO events. We will hold this policy for six months with the intention to make this a permanent reduction to our pricing structure. We have over 350 PKO MTTs per week with guarantees of over $4 million, so clearly, we will need players continued support to remain competitive revenue wise with other online poker sites,” wrote Waters on the new change.

The change will see players paying less rake and benefitting from bigger bounties while continuing to pay the same buy-in at PKO MTT`s on the site.

Here is a comparison of the current buy-ins and rake, with the proposed changes as posted on the partypoker blog.

Sweden`s Michael Tureniec Wins WPTDeepStacks Immokalee For $143,324

Sweden`s Michael Tureniec outlasted a field of 816 entries at the WPTDeepStacks Immokalee at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, to take home the title and the first-place payday of $143,324.

Tureniec who hails from Solna, Sweden is one of the most consistent players in the world. With over $4 million in live poker tournament winnings, this win is just the latest in a long list of his scores.

Tureniec bagged an above average stack on Day 1 placed 68th among 171 survivors but he climbed up the chip count ladder fast on Day 2 and was leading the way by the time there were 60 players remaining in the field.

He carried his lead all the way to the final table where play continued for the maximum amount of levels scheduled for the day, and while his two opponents preferred to keep playing, Tureniec was in favor of coming back the following day to finish up.

“I felt pretty tired and dizzy last night, and didn’t want to risk making any big mistakes due to being so tired. So it felt good to get some sleep and collect your thoughts and get ready for a new day,” said Tureniec of his decision to take a one-day break.

With the three remaining players almost evenly placed, the final day came to a close fast. Hughes was the first one out after losing with ace-jack to the pocket kings of Tureniec. Down to under 10 big blinds, Hughes lost the remainder of his stack of Stewart who went into the heads-up match against Tureniec with the latter holding an almost 2:1 chip lead.

The final hand did not take long coming with Stewart`s nines flipping against the ace-jack of Tureniec. The ace-high board gave Tureniec the pot along with the WPTDeepStacks Immokalee title.

“It feels amazing. It was a very big tournament with a lot of runners and a very tough final table, so it feels really good to get the win. I think Seminole Hard Rock is a great venue for poker. I played most of their major series during the past two years, and I like the big fields, big guarantees, and the great prize pools. Great bang for your buck,” said Tureniec after his win.
