In this edition of our PokerGuru 3-Bet, we have two unexpected winners and a new digital show. Our first story is about the ever-popular PokerStars Spin & Gos, where an anonymous Bermudan is the latest millionaire.

The second is about a new digital show that is set to give viewers an innovative gaming experience. The third is a tournament report from the Mid-States Poker Tour, which was won by a recreational player Jonathan Kim who entered through a $250 qualifier.

 

Anonymous Bermudan Wins $1.2 Million at Spin & Go

Spin & Go tournaments on PokerStars have made many a player a millionaire and the latest to join that elite list is ‘jrww86’ a history teacher from Bermuda, who minted a cool $1.2 million from a buy-in that cost a mere $100. The 30-year old jrww86 prefers to keep his real name private and all he said after the win was, “I am currently still in shock, but it is definitely a timely blessing.” The winner has been playing recreational poker the past 10 years.

Jrww was among the last three players, including Belarusian ‘netspider_by’ and Russian ‘REVELKOF’ at the tournament. The teacher is the third Spin & Go millionaire this year and the 16th since the formats were introduced.

Known for its fast pace, this game too ran quickly and before long ‘netspider_by’ was short stacked.

He got it in with , but ‘REVELKOF’ had the better club flush with and took the pot, sending ‘netspider_by’ to the rails with $100,000 for consolation.

14 hands later the situation was reversed with ‘jrww86’ wresting the lead from REVELKOF.

Action began with jrww86 calling when the levels were at 30/60 and REVELKOF checked. The flop brought and REVELKOF went all-in with . But jrww86 tabled for a two pair and the $1 million jackpot.

 

Revolutionary New Digital Show to Launch in 2017

PokerVision Media, a new Canadian company is all set to launch a revolutionary digital channel, ePlay Digital in 2017. The company is creating a “multi-platform digital TV channel that will bridge poker, gaming, e-sports and sports content with previously unseen levels of interactivity.

Currently, the company has already acquired operational studio space in Calgary and Toronto, besides seeking more in other Canadian locales. The show will employ latest technology to provide an innovative gaming experience and live coverage of poker tournaments.

A promo released by PokerVision Network had announced a 2016 launch, but this has been pushed to 2017. The show has received approval from federal regulators CRTC, though it has not been declared whether it will be just a cable release or an online show.

 

Recreational Player Jonathan Kim Wins MSPT Minnesota For $107K

Jonathan Kim, a 47-year old recreational player won the Season 7 Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT), $1,100 Main Event at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota for $107,659 on a $250 satellite entry. The event was the state’s second largest with a record entry-crowd of 464 (213 on Day 1a and 251 on 1b).

Prior to this Kim had just $37,886 in lifetime earnings, with his best cash being $4,423, from a ninth place in the 2009 Twin Cities Poker Open. The Minnesotan winner plans to use the money for his 19-year old son’s education and said, “It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been playing the MSPT since the beginning, but this is actually my first MSPT cash. It’s pretty cool.

Day 2 of the event saw 78 survivors resume action, with the top 45 making the money. After the bubble burst on Scotter Clark some of the notables who cashed included Day 1a chip leader Jim Boone (41st – $2,243), two-time MSPT champ Jeremy Dresch (19th – $3,364), Blue Shark Optic’s Erick Wright (13th – $5,832), and World Series of Poker bracelet winner John Reading (12th – $7,626).

The crucial point came at Level 27 (25,000/50,000/5,000) on Hand 12. Kim with pocket kings raised to 135,000. Sam Rubin with his pocket queens called from the big blind. The flop came . Rubin checked and Kim bet 260,000. Rubin called and again checked after the turn of . Kim went all-in for 770,000. Rubin paused before calling. The on the river gave Kim the chip lead that he wielded well to end the tournament with the title firmly in his grasp.

He later declared, “I wanted him to think I didn’t have it, tried to induce action. It was a bit of reverse psychology. I was obviously running hot, and once I had half the chips in play I was very aggressive. Pedal to the metal.
