Joseph Cappello Claims WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Baltimore Main Event For $292,500

Joseph Cappello (cover image) took down the World Series of Poker Circuit Horseshoe Baltimore Main Event for his first gold ring and the top prize of $292,500. The 35-year-old New Rochelle, New York native said that he would give the ring to his mother and was excited about the win. “This (circuit ring) means a lot. It means more than any amount of money I’ve ever won. To win an event like this with all these great players, 890 players, it feels excellent,” Cappello stated.

Cappello who had $1.5 million in all-time earnings admitted that bad money-management had caused him to take a break from poker in the past few years. He was a regular at tournaments during 2007-10 and after this win said, “To get back where I used to be, a couple of years ago, feels really good. I haven’t been playing a lot, but to break the ice [in this event] it feels excellent, I can’t describe it.”

The $1,675 Main Event saw 894 players ponying up the buy-in, to create a prize pool of $1,500,000.

On Day 3 only 17 runners took to their seats, with an unofficial table of 10 formed just three hours into the play.

Dennis Phillips (68th), Jared Jaffee (58th), Cornel Cimpan (46th), Tony Gregg (39th),Christian Harder (36th), Joe Kuether (32nd), Steve Dannenmann (17th), and Jake Schwartz (16th) were among the notables who cashed.

Cappello began the final table second in chips, right behind Alex Rocha. The duo both played aggressively taking most of the eliminations until three-handed play saw Rocha’s busted by Matt Bond’s .

After a six-hour final table play, heads up lasted another two hours with both players on an even keel. Cappello however, took the lead early and refused to let go.

The finale came after 61 hands and saw Bond move all-in from the button with less than ten big blinds with his and Cappello called with . The board opened giving Cappello a full house, to clinch the title. Bond was runner-up with $180,750 for consolation.

Cappello also received a seat to the season-ending 2016 WSOP Global Casino Championship.
