The main event of the 2012 edition of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) came to an end after the tournament was left with the final nine players who will play out the final table on October 29-30. The ‘Octo Nine’, as they are dubbed, will return inside the Penn and Teller Theatre at the Rio in Las Vegas to battle out to the last three on October 29. The final three would return the next day to play until there is one decisive winner who will take home USD $8,527,982 in prize money.

The Octo Nine are currently led by American Jesse Sylvia (cover image) with 43,875,000 chips, followed by Hungary’s Andras Koroknai on 29,375,000. The next seven are all Americans – Russell Thomas, Greg Merson, Steven Gee, Michael Esposito, Robert Salaburu, Jacob Balsiger and Jeremy Ausmus. Merson’s achievement of reaching the final table has made him eclipse Phil Ivey in the WSOP Player of the Year standings.

Earlier, the main event saw two women players suffer as the final table bubble. Norway’s Elisabeth Hille and France’s Gaelle Baumann were the 11th and 10th to exit the tournament. Both were bettered in their respective hands by the same person – Andras Korokonai.
