The Hollywood Poker Open (HPO) Season 3 was hosted at the M Resort Casino Spa in Las Vegas and considering that most of the world’s poker playing public was in town, a large field was expected to join the popular series. 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Chris Moneymaker currently brand ambassador of the HPO was present at the event entertaining those at his table.

$2,500 Championship Event $500,000 GTD – Day 1

The $2,500 Championship Event took flight on June 26 and blew away all expectations with 662 entries and more can be expected with late registrations allowed on Day 2.

The spectacular Milan Ballroom saw 188 players survive to play Day 2 and Pedro Oliveira (cover image) led the counts with 369,000 in chips.

Along with several other top pros from around the world, Team India had representation with Jasven Saigal, Amit Ajwani, Raghav Bansal, Amit Jain, Kunal Patni and Sahil Agarwal all in attendance at the event.

Amit Ajwani (98,600), Jasven Saigal (62,500) and Raghav Bansal (46,400) were the only Indian players to make it to Day 2.

Sahil Agarwal was the first player from the Team to exit, with Amit Jain and Kunal Patni getting unlucky and hitting the rails before the end of play.

Amit Jain took an early hit when he ran his turned nut flush into an opponent’s rivered full-house and came down to around 8,000 in chips. After that he ran his stack up to 42,000, but came down to 30,000, when his bluff with King-Ten on the board was snapped by a player with Ace high.

Amit’s bustout hand was the most brutal and he lost out on a pre-flop all-in showdown with pocket queens to Ace-Queen with an Ace opening on the river.

Kunal Patni too got an unlucky beat and hit the rails. With a flush draw on the board, Kunal re-raised an initial raiser with a flopped set. A third player shoved with a Jack high flush draw and with all the money in the pot, got there on the turn to win the 70K pot.

Familiar notables could be seen at the event and these included defending champion Simon Deadman, Allen Kessler, Jared Hamby, Jonathan Little, Matt Salsburg, Mukul Pahuja, Michael Wang and Justin Young. None of them made it to Day 2 though and neither did HPO ambassador Chris Moneymaker.

Ravi Raghavan, Ankush Mandavia, Tim Reilly, Cord Garcia, EPT champions David Vamplew and Tom Middleton, Tracey Sweeney and Ukranian pro Oleksandr Gnatenko are some of those who made it to Day 2.
