It was another thrilling day at Spartan Poker, where the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) deep into its Day 3 action saw Delhi player Jagdeep ‘Spazzking’ Singh (cover image) claim the highest buy-in Event 12 – 25K Super Highroller for a huge ₹7.5 Lakhs payday and the exclusive IOPC trophy.

Three other players made titles and these included Kapil ‘spady’ Arora who claimed Event 9 – Pot Limit Omaha for ₹13,338 and ‘sharkfish’ who won Event 11 for ₹22,750.

Siddarth ‘PeterPunter’ Singhvi became the first to claim two titles this series, as he took down Event 10 – NLHE 17K GTD for seven bounties and ₹8,688, after winning the earlier High Roller for ₹4.07 lakhs. No surprise that Siddarth is currently leading the IOPC Leaderboard, which has a prize pool of ₹4 lakhs for the top 10 finishers.

This edition of the IOPC is promising to break all previous records with volume entries and prize pools crushed in all events. There is still time to catch the action which is happening on Spartan Poker, as the series ends tonight after the highlight Main Event, which alone has a huge ₹20 Lakhs guaranteed prize pool.

Event 9 – PLO 14 Lakhs GTD (R + A)

Kapil ‘spady’ Arora won his first IOPC title in Event 9 – ₹150 Pot Limit Omaha for a winning prize of ₹13,338 from the collected prize pool of ₹51,300.

A former e-commerce professional, the winner declared, “This is my first win in the PLO format and I am quite excited to get one under the belt before the Super Highroller later tonight.”

Arora has earlier made a runner-up finish in the October 2015, IOPC Leaderboard and described his current final table run, “I was chip lead on the FT, was patiently waiting for the right spot. At the time of heads up the stack did swing couple of times before the final hand. I had A745 double suited on button, I raised and the opponent made it pot. I called to see the flop and it was 7AJ with two clubs I had A4 of clubs. The money went on the flop where my opponent had a wrap for a straight draw. I had two pair with nut flush draw and turn was a club giving me a flush and this win!”

Event 10 – NLHE 17K GTD (BO)

Siddarth ‘PeterPunter’ Singhvi claimed his second IOPC title this season, after taking down Event 10 – NLHE ₹17K GTD for seven bounties and a payout of ₹8,688. Siddharth has already won the Event 8 – Highroller for ₹4.07 Lakhs two days ago.

Declaring his further intentions to claim the IOPC POY, the winner said, “Will have to play the Saturday-Sunday schedule to keep pace with others. Gotta give a shot for the POY trophy.”

Event 10 had a buy-in of ₹300 and drew 116 entries leading to a prize pool of ₹54,300.

Event 11 – NHLE 55K GTD (FO)

Bengaluru-based player ‘sharkfish’ captured the title in the ₹770 buy-in Event 11, taking home the winning prize of ₹22,750, after defeating an entry-field of 130 players, that generated a prize pool of ₹91,000.

Event 12 – Super Highroller 10 Lakhs GTD (1 RE)

Delhi’s Jagdeep ‘Spazzking’Singh was crowned champion in Event 12, and collected the top prize of ₹7,50,500 along with the classic IOPC trophy for his first place finish. The top 10 players made the money, with Spartan Team pro Sangeeth ‘Samoh’ Mohan taking the unfortunate bubble boy tag at 11th place.

This edition’s highest buy-in event, the ₹25k Super Highroller created a new record, with 89 unique entries and 12 re-entries easily expanding the ₹10 Lakhs guarantee into more than double with ₹25,25,000.

The event was restructured giving it a deeper format with 25,000 starting chips and 14-minute levels.

The 31-year old winner had a swingy ride to the top and when play was down to the final eight players, Jagdeep had just three big blinds. Nevertheless, he made his way back up to claim the title and later said, “I’m very happy with the way I played, especially on FT. The tournament structure was such that I could get a chance to play my optimal game instead of rushing through.”

The crucial hand that changed Jagdeep’s fortunes was described by him saying, “When we were 3 handed I was the shortest stack. Button opened to 2bb, small blind (SB) matched and I had AJo on big blind (BB). I could have 3-bet at that time but decided to play post by matching. On the flop of 6 2 2 ss, SB leads out a little less than half the pot. I called and button folded. Turn was a Ten and he bet again for around half the pot and I flatted. River completed the flush. SB checked and I overbet jammed 1.5x pot. He folded and I showed him ace high. It set up a nice dynamic for the future heads up battle with this guy “Njmpro”. 4-5 hands later, I made him fold again on river by overbet shoving after he called two streets so I knew he was getting impatient and he might be feeling bullied. Then the last hand of the tournament when I had K7 on the board of 35K7A, he called 3 barrels and my river overbet shove with queens.”

A former chess player, Jagdeep has earned his engineer-MBA degrees from IIM Indore and has been playing poker for almost three years with fair success at the live and online tournaments. He went a full-time pro in 2013 and is enjoying his run, “Poker gives me the financial and personal independence to work on things that I really enjoy doing like travelling and reading. It’s important to realise that money is just the means and not the end.

In May, Jagdeep had won the Pok-O-lympics at Spartan Poker, where he had received a seven days trip to Greece, all expenses paid.
