Jae Kyung Sim (cover image) (Korea), known to his supporters as “Simba“, has emerged from the poker pack as the new King, earning the APPT Cebu Champion title and a prize of PHP3,948,000 (USD96,410).

It only took seven hours for Simba to emerge as victor, playing his methodical and controlled style. Simba was the shortest stack in the field on the money bubble but made a heroic comeback to take down the title.

Heads-up play against Magnus Karlsson (Sweden) was very quick, lasting only three hands. With the blinds at 15,000/30,000 with a 5,000 ante, Magnus raised to 60,000 pre-flop, and Simba called. The flop came rainbow and after Simba checked, Magnus made a bet of 65,000, only to get check-raised to 155,000. Karlsson moved all-in with his with an open-ended straight draw. He was insta-called by Simba who held for the nut-straight. After the on the turn and on the river, Simba emerged victorious.

“I was short-stacked on Day 3 but remained positive. Then I doubled-up and doubled-up…. Now I’m the Champion and very happy!” said Simba.

The overnight chip leader James Collopy will have to wait a little longer to add another live title after his win at the WSOP APAC event last month. James fondly called ‘Queso‘ (named on his PokerStars alias ‘Mr_BigQueso) couldn`t get anything going for him on the final table and kept slipping down in chips. Finally he pushed his short stack with pocket-queens only to be looked up by Anthony Wright holding pocket-aces. The board opened nine high and Queso had to settle for 4th place cashing PHP 1,128,000.

The lone Indian to make it to Day 3 of the APPT Cebu Main Event – Aditya ‘Mastermind’ Agarwal made an early exit on Day 3 when his ran into of Daniel Spence.
