IPC August Edition: 5K Warm-up Opening Event Draws 284 Entries, Aditya Wadhwani Takes Down the Title for ₹3.05 Lakhs

The IPC Aug began with a bang, as the opening ₹5K Warm Up event drew a huge entry-crowd of 284, just 5 players less than the record 289 registered in the April edition. The final heads up play lasted barely six minutes with two Aditya’s fighting it out and ultimately it was Aditya Wadhwani (cover image) who took the title and a payout of ₹3.05 Lakhs. Wadhawani out for holiday was playing a live tournament after six years and told PokerGuru after the win, “I had originally come down to chill with friends and network with players for work, but it was only after the mid-way stage of the tournament that I seriously started to grind for the title.”

Aditya Vijay was runner up, collecting ₹2 lakhs for his efforts.

From start to end, the entire event lasted a little over 8 hours and the Deltin Royale poker room shone with notables, as well as ladies and celebrities, all were equal in front of the board.

A prize pool of ₹12.07 Lakhs created saw 12 players making the money.

Dhaval Mudgal fresh from a successful APPT 9 Manila, Kanishka Samant, Anudeep Srinivas, Dyuthidhar Suresh, Rishabh Chawla, Aditya Sushant, Sahil Agarwal, Sabyasachi Chakraborty and Sumit Sapra were among the known names present.

The event kicked off at 7 pm and eliminations began almost immediately. Sahil Agarwal, Shravan Chhabria, actor Kunal Khemu andSanjay Choudhary were among those with big chip stacks by the dinner break. Though, none survived the day.

By Level 6 at 9:50 pm, Aditya Sushant lost his tournament life after a rough day, busted by Abhishek Jalan. Sushant found his overpowered by Jalan’s on a board that read

Kunal Khemu played a great game, but by Level 9, he found his nemesis in Varun Gupta and hit the rails. Both had clubs, but Gupta’s proved mightier than Khemu’s .

Almost 3 hours later, a final table was reached, when Sameer Rattonsey bubbled it at 11th place, taking home ₹15,000. Again, it was Jalan who took the elimination. The IPC co-Director and former IPC Champion Rattonsey shoved from middle position for 36,000 and Jalan called.

The board ran out proving no support to Rattonsey and he was out at 11th place.

The final table was now set with Aditya Vijay leading the chip counts.

In 20 minutes, Mandira Singh, the only lady at the final table was eliminated by Gupta.

The board played out and Mandira was out at 10th place.

Vaibhav Shah and Jalan followed in quick succession at ninth and eighth place respectively.

Defending champion Vidwath Shetty was next to hit the rails, upset by the soon-to-be new champion Aditya Wadhwani. Shetty held against Wadhwani’s . The board dealt out and Shetty retired at seventh place for ₹43,000.

Wadhwani went on a spate of eliminations and did not stop until he had the title. He first eliminated Deep Raina at 6th place, Vasim Rozani at 5th, Varun Gupta at 4th and Jagroop Singh in 3rd place.

Heads up play was a short affair and the final hand saw the overwhelming chip leader Wadhwani all-in against Aditya Vijay.
