According to an article in the Business Standard, the Goa govt has admitted that it has yet to ascertain the impact on the environment by the off shore casinos in the Mandovi River. The State govt had stated that the casinos would be shifted from Sept onwards.

Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte posed the question in the Legislative Assembly. Chief Minister – Laxmikant Parsekar stated in a written reply that the environmental impact situation could not be initiated until the four casinos shifted.

Parsekar replied that, “The Government of Goa has entrusted the task to the Captain of Ports Department for exploring the possibilities of relocating all the four off-shore casino vessels.

As per information provided by the Department of Environment by the Captain of Ports Department, it has undertaken various inspections and verified several sites within the inland waterways of Goa,” Parsekar added.

Goa casinos have been facing severe flak from anti-casino locals, who have complained about the pollution generated by them, as well as cries for their removal from the state.
