Daniel Daniyar (cover image) claimed the €152,600 first place prize purse along with a $15,000 seat into the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions for winning the Season XVI WPT Amsterdam €3,300 Main Event. Daniyar became the first-ever WPT champion from Kazakhstan after he outlasted the 224-entry field and will now look forward to his trip to the US at the end of the season for the WPT Tournament of Champions.

“I’ve never played in America before,”Daniyar said. “I’m looking forward to going there for the WPT Tournament of Champions,” he added.

Daniyar is also optimistic about his chances at the Tournament of Champions event and taking hints from the history he said, “Maybe it’s a good tradition or a good omen that a former WPT Amsterdam winner (Farid Yachou) has gone on to win the WPT Tournament of Champions.”

Daniyar started the final day second in chips with the only player ahead being local player Jan Jansma. However, when the dust settled, a determined Daniyar managed to grab all the chips in play with his impressive moves and with a tiny push from Lady Luck.

Daniyar managed to take down four of his five opponents at the final table including Jonathan Rozema, Jorn Walthaus, and Jansma Jan to enter the heads-up battle against Salter with a commanding 6-1 chip advantage.

However, Salter got a couple of healthy double ups to become almost even in chips and put up a good fight to even take the chip lead, but Daniyar cracked Salter’s pocket kings to nearly end it all.

Salter announced all-in the very next hand with jack high and Daniyar called with ace high. The board bricked out and Daniyar took down the last pot of the event to win the title.

“It was a very tough game, and a tough opponent (in Louis Salter) heads-up,” Daniyar stated after his finish.

“It’s very hard to go up and down in chips like how we did in heads-up, but that’s gambling! I love when you feel the adrenaline like that!” he added.
