DPT February 2017: Manoj Pentakota Ships High Roller For ₹33 Lakhs

The February 2017 Edition of Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) has been a resounding success with record-breaking players in attendance at the Deltin Royale Poker Room, Goa. The ₹10K Kickoff event attracted a massive 354 player field and continuing the action was the ₹60K High Roller with 50 Lakhs guaranteed. The event attracted an impressive 202 runners on Friday of which 70 players made it to Day 2 the following day.

Rajat Jain was leading the survivors at the end of Day 1 but when the dust settled, the title was taken down by Vishkhapatnam based Manoj Pentakota ₹33 Lakhs. The 28-year-old Mechanical Engineer has been playing poker professionally for almost two years now and has been a consistent online winner on Indian poker sites.

 

60K High Roller Day 2

Day 2 play resumed at 3pm with the 70 remaining players returning back. Early eliminations of the day were Sailesh Lohia, Kavish Kukreja, Amar Katharani, Nikhil Jalan, Sameer and Sanket who all busted within 90 minutes of play.

Pentakota put up his A-game all throughout and his onslaught began with the elimination of the deep stacked Shrey Maheshwari who was fourth in chips at the end of Day 1. Pentakota opened from the button holding and Maheshwari tried to make a move from the big blind by pushing all-in with . Pentakota made the call and the board ran the . No help on the board for Maheshwari and his tournament run came to an end.

The pace of eliminations peaked between 5-6 pm with a notable number of bust outs including Sahil Agarwal, Sangeeth Mohan, Aman Dhamija, and Rahul Byraju.

It didn`t make too long to reach the money. The top 20 players were to take home a piece of the prize money and the first one to make the cut was Vikram Verma who min cashed for ₹1.2 Lakhs.

This edition of DPT also witnessed presence of Bollywood celebrities like Rajat Kapoor, Minissha Lamba and Kunal Khemu. Khemu made a deep run and made it in the money. On his last hand, Khemu open shoved for 114K with and got one caller in Prashant Rawat who had him dominated with . Khemu got no help on the board and he exited the event in 19th place for ₹1.2 Lakhs.

The nine-handed final table was found after Deepak Khubchandani’s elimination in 10th place for ₹1.8Lakhs.

Young Gun Kartik Ved started off as the final table chip leader with 1.3 million in chips followed by Manoj Pentakota with 976K.

The final table chip leader Kartik Ved was unable to close the deal and was eliminated by Lakshamanan S in fourth place.

The final table was mostly dominated by Manish Jain who eliminated quite a few players, starting off by busting Rajat Jain at fifth place and then sent Lakshmanan S packing in third place.

Pentakota who came into the final table second in chips seems content to stay under the radar till it came to heads-up action. Manish Jain was ahead at the beginning of heads-up play but Pentakota wrestled his way to the top. The last hand of the event saw Jain opening to 230K with and Pentakota announced all-in holding . Jain tank called only to see the board open . Pentakota took down the event for ₹33 Lakhs while Manish Jain pocketed ₹21 Lakhs for his runner up finish.
