DPT April 2017: Vidwath Shetty Outlasts Aditya Sushant Heads-Up to Win High Roller Title For ₹36.23 Lakhs

The April 2017 Edition of Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) has been a resounding success with a good turnout of players in all events so far. Rounding up the weekend action was the ₹100K High Roller with Bengaluru based Vidwath Shetty (cover image) taking top honors.

The highest buy-in event of the series attracted a total of 122 entries of which 37 players made it to Day 2. Pradeep N Sharma was leading the survivors at the end of Day 1 with 306,000 in chips but when the dust settled, Vidwath Shetty took down the title.

Shetty who has completed his engineering from RVCE, Bengaluru also worked in his family businesses for a couple of years before turning pro.

Shetty who started third in chips on the final table, had his work cut out for himself with formidable players like Aditya Sushant (chip leader for most part of final table), Samay Parikh, Romit Advani and Sumit Sapra all making it to the final table. Shetty however persevered and edged past Aditya Sushant in the heads-up match to take home the title and ₹36,23,000 in prize money!

 

100K High Roller Day 2

The tournament organizers had decided to pay the top 12 finishers with the min-cash being ₹2,13,000 and a whopping ₹36,23,000 reserved for the champion.

Day 2 play resumed at 3 pm with the 37 remaining players returning back and one of the early elimination of the day was Minissha Lamba. Lamba open shoved from the button holding Jack-Nine and got one caller in Sumit Sapra who tabled King-Jack. Sapra was leading preflop and a King on the board sealed the pot for him.

The recent KPC champion Vikram Kumar hit the rails around 7pm at the hands of Rohan Dhawan. Kumar open shoved for 110,000 holding and next to act Dhawan made the call tabling . The board bricked out and Dhawan took down the pot eliminating Kumar in the process.

The money bubble burst just 7 minutes later and in a similar hand too. It was Kolkata-based pro Aditya ‘bitti’ Agarwal who got the unlucky “bubble boy” tag when Romit Advani opened and action folded to Agarwal who pushed all-in with . Advani snap called with and the board ran .

The top 12 players were to take home a piece of the prize money and the first one to cash was Bharath Janardhan who min cashed for ₹2.13 Lakhs followed by Meherzad Munsaf who also pocketed the same amount for his 11th place finish.

Vidwath Shetty`s onslaught began with the elimination of notable pro Jasven Saigal – who bubbled the final table. Shetty opened UTG and action folded to Saigal in the big blind and he called. On the flop , Shetty moved all-in holding for two pairs and Saigal check-called with his short stack tabling for a pair and a straight draw. The turn and river blanked out for Saigal and he hit the rails at 10th place.

The first elimination of the final table was Sumit Sapra who shoved with and the initial raiser Shetty made the call tabling . Shetty hits quads on the board to take down the pot.

Next to go was Rohan Dhawan who was eliminated by Aditya Sushant in eighth place. Other eliminations include Santosh Suvarna (7th place), Romit Advani (6th place), Chiraag Patel (5th place) and Samay Parikh (4th place)

The start of the day chip leader Pradeep N Sharma made an impressive run in the event with a second runners-up finish. On Sharma`s final hand of the tournament, Vidwath Shetty min-raised and Sharma announced all-in holding . Shetty tanked for a while and eventually called tabling . Shetty hit a flush on the board to eliminate Sharma.

The final hand of the tournament saw Shetty opening and getting a 3-bet from Aditya Sushant. Shetty announces all-in holding Ace-Nine and Sushant called with Ace-Four. The board missed both players and Shetty took down the pot with a better kicker to win the title, ₹36,23,000 in prize money along with his first DPT bracelet!

The other exciting event on the schedule i.e. ₹15K Tag Teams Event made its debut at DPT yesterday with 42 entries signing up for the ₹10 Lakh guaranteed event. Deepak Bothra & Manoj Pentakota won the event for ₹4,74,000.
