A healthy poker economy equates with a profitable time, not just for operators, but also leading pros, who get lucrative brand endorsements that add to their popularity along with getting them monetary benefits!

Ever since the online boom in the country that began in early 2015, there has been a spike in brand partnerships, and this trend seems to be continuing with two more players Clawin D’Souza and Rajat Sharma inking brand endorsement deals with online poker sites PokerHigh.com and StarPoker.in respectively.

Clawin ‘Durrminator’ D’Souza Joins Team PokerHigh.com

26-year old Clawin D’Souza is BBM graduate from Presidency College in Bengaluru, who started playing poker in 2008 at college on Facebook. He’s come a long way since then and one of his early exploits was a win at the Asian Poker Tour in 2012, for INR 2.5 lakhs, besides several other impressive scores.

Clawin was earlier a member of Team Spartan Poker and played an important role under his online alias ‘Durrminator’, which had created quite a stir on social media.

PokerHigh released the news about Clawin’s addition to the pro team on Facebook. In a press release to PokerGuru, PokerHigh confirmed the news.

TeamPokerHigh adds another heavyweight to its roster. Clawin D’Souza aka Durrminator is currently one of the most respected cash game players in India and is one of the first to reach Supernova status (Played over 5m hands).

He will be integral in developing the upcoming PokerHigh School. His experience as a coach at one of the biggest online poker schools in the world (pokerstrategy.com) will be a fantastic resource for developing talent,” said the press release.

Clawin is a fantastic ambassador of the sport and we are excited about having him on board this mission to grow the sport in India”, added Navneeth Srinivas, CEO PokerHigh.com.

Clawin D’Souza joins other Team PokerHigh Pros, such as Kanishka Samant, Rishabh Chawla, Ankit Anand, Arsh Grover and Mandira Singh.

StarPoker.in Signs Rajat Sharma as Brand Ambassador

StarPoker.in has also been aggressively wooing players, especially its latest lineup of Next-Gen pros and has put up some highly attractive sponsorship deals that include tournament buy-ins, monthly retainers and rakeback offers on Star Poker.

Some of these youngsters signed up by them are Nishant Sharma, Jimmy Arora, Kartik Ved, Vivek ‘Ik’ Rughani, Eka Vedantham, Vineet Kumar, & Anant Purohit.

StarPoker has also tied-up with international pro Sam Trickett in December.

Rajat Sharma, their latest team member, is one of the most noticeable players at all major domestic tournaments. He has to his credit several wins at both live and online events, including a first place at the 2nd edition of Adda52 Millions and a win at the Tilt Poker Series, 30K Main Event in December 2014, with many final tables at the last few Indian Poker Championship tournaments.

Rajat announced the news of this tie-up on his Facebook page –

Hi guys, it gives me immense pleasure to share the fact that I have joined StarPoker as their brand ambassador. Looking forward to working with such a talented team.”

The StarPoker team also gave out a release saying –

Breaking News: StarPoker.in is very proud to announce Rajat Sharma as their new Brand Ambassador! Rajat joins Sam Trickett and Maria Kirloskaras Starpoker.in’s Brand Ambassadors. Congratulations to Rajat, and a very warm welcome.

A glaring point in the above press release was the omission of Sabyasachi ‘Infusion_leo’ Chakraborty. The brand had signed Sabyasachi and Maria ‘dr4gonLady’ Kirloskar as their first two brand ambassadors in October last year. Though nothing has been officially said, the omission seems to indicate that the two have now parted ways.

Two similar cases that come to mind are Muskan Sethi and Aditya Sushant. Both were members of Adda52 Team Spades. While Sethi’s contract was not renewed, it was mutually by both parties to keep Sushant’s contract on ‘hold’ for a few months. Also, pros Jasven Saigal, Haresh Kukreja, Danish Shaikh and Sahil Agarwal were dropped from the Pro Team rooster by Thrill Poker earlier this year!
