French player Benjamin Gonzva (cover image) outlasted the 100-entry field at the WPT National Cambodia $1,485 Main Event today to win the top prize of $36,487.

It was a strong showing by the Indian players in attendance at the series with three players – Nitin Jain, Manoj Pentakota and Kalyan Chakravarthy making it on the final table at the event.

Indian Contingent

India was well represented at the series with a 20-player strong contingent storming the series. With two titles already in the bag, Sumit Sapra who was one of the side event winners, went on to make another deep run in the Main Event eventually finishing 18th when his Ace-Queen was cracked by an opponent’s pocket kings. Going out just a few hands before Sapra was Kanishka Samant, a well-know poker pro from Mumbai who took 19th place, missing the money bus by seven places.

Day 3 saw four Indian players making it in the final 12, with Manoj Pentakota leading the way.

Charu Vikram Kaushik was among the early eliminations and bowed out in the 11th place with $2,656.

The final table was soon set and saw three of our Indian challengers making it to the final nine. Kalyan Chakravarty was the first Indian player to exit the final table and went out in seventh place when his pocket seven`s were overpowered by an opponent`s pocket king`s. Kalyan pocketed $6,078 for his finish.

The start-of-day chip leader Manoj Pentakota followed him out next at sixth place. Pentakota who had doubled up some short stacks saw his chip lead dwindling fast and left with just 14 big blinds, he shoved with card 3card 3 only to run into card 3card 3. The flop card 3card 3card 3 had Pentakota drawing dead and he took home $7,296 for his efforts.

The only remaining Indian contender, Mumbai-based Nitin Jain put up a valiant fight and eventually took 4th place for $12,170. His final hand was a battle between the blinds with the chip leader announcing allin with Ace-Eight offshuit from the small blind and Jain making the call from the big blind with card 3card 3. The Ace on the flop had Jain drawing very thin and with no help on the board, he settled for a fourth place finish.
