Steve O’Dwyer (cover image) ended Phil Ivey’s winning streak as he claimed the LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge at the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship yesterday. Ivey, who has won this title three times in the last four years, fell in the very first level of play on Sunday. O’Dwyer on the other hand trailblazed his way to the title netting AU$951,960 in prize money. This win for O’Dwyer comes less than a month after he took down the 2016 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $50,000 Single-Day High Roller for $945,495.

On the way, O’Dwyer outlasted some of the best players in the world, including David Peters (2nd – AU$889,236 million), Connor Drinan (3rd – AU$1,021,909), and Fabian Quoss (4th – AU$956,896), who were the only other players to cash.

Originally only three of the 16 entries (15 unique + 1 re-entry) were slated to get paid with the winner supposed to take home AU$1.96 million, but a four-way deal did away with the bubble and ensured everyone took home close to AU$1 million.

The win only confirms O’Dwyer’s reputation as one of the most accomplished high rollers in the sport today and he recently reached the number one spot on the Global Poker Index. O’Dwyer’s résumé includes some big wins like the EPT9 Grand Final Main Event, PCA 2015 (EPT11) $100k Super High Roller, EPT12 Malta €10k One-Day High Roller, and the EPT12 Prague €50k Super High Roller. Less than a week back, O’Dwyer ended fourth in the $25,000 Challenge, which saw him earn AU$263,520.

A deal was reached between the final four players, Drinan, Peters, O’Dwyer and Quoss, that saw them leave AU$100,000 and the LK Boutique championship ring on the table.

Quoss was the first in-the-money casualty. Drinan was the next to go after his failed to get there against Peters’ , and that set up a heads-up match between Peters and O’Dwyer.

O’Dwyer defeated Peters heads-up. The final hand was difficult for David to get away from when on a board of , both players had two pair, Peters holding but Stephen had a dominant . O’Dwyer took down the title while Peters had to be content with $889,236.
