APT Philippines III: Amparo, Tsuchikawa & Lee Win First Three Trophies, Dhaval Mudgal Cashes Opening Event

Asian Poker Tour Philippines III got underway on Wednesday afternoon at the Resorts World Manila poker room and has already crowned three champions. Team India made an impressive opening at the series with Dhaval Mudgal cashing the opening event just outside the final table for $1,200 (approx). That`s not all; the Indian duo of Kunal Patni and Abhishek Jalan has made it in the final eight of the $440 Battle of Nations Teams Event.

Three champions have already emerged at the festival with Mark Amparo winning the $275 $50K GTD APT-RWM opening event, Tetsuya Tsuchikawa taking down the $180 Ante Up for Charity Event, and Chang Hun Lee shipping the $2,200 PLO High Rollers.

 

Event 1 – $275 APT-RWM Opening Event 50,000 Guaranteed

The series kicked off in style with a massive 262 entries joining the opening event. After two action-packed days, Filipino player Mark Amparo overcame a seemingly unstoppable Will. T from Malaysia, to win the first trophy of the series along with $15,860 in prize money. India`s DhavalMudgal narrowly missed the final table after getting unlucky in two crucial hands and cashed $1,200.

Day 2 began with 66 players with Filipino Rodolfo Feliciano leading the charge. Dexter Salmingo was the bubble boy who went out at the hands of fellow countryman Alexis Lim.

India`s Dhaval Mudgal had a swingy day himself but his tournament ran came to an end just short of the final table after getting unlucky in two hands. Mudgal pushed allin with on the board . Will. T made the call with and just when it was looking like Mudgal`s straight would get him a double-up, the river resulted in a split pot. Two hands later, Mudgal was sent packing by Will. T when his were cracked by Will. T’s with the latter making a full house on the board .

Will. T was the chip leader by the time the final table began, but he lost a few pots to come down. Eventually it was heads-up between him and Mark Amparo for the title with Amparo clearly the favorite with a 3.5:1 chip lead.

Will. T did pick up a few early pots but it all came to an end shortly when Amparo got it in with against Will. T`s . The board ran and just like that Amparo was crowned champion!

Event 2: $2,200 PLO High Rollers

The PLO High Rollers event saw just five players ponying up the $2,200 buy-in with the winner taking down the entire prize pool of $9,700.

Korea`s Chang Hun Lee was up against UK`s Edward Pastoll heads-up and though the latter had more chips to start off, Lee won a crucial pot to double-up. Pastoll was left very short after the blow and Lee picked up the title shortly thereafter.

Event 3: $440 Battle of the Nations (Day 1)

The $440 buy-in Battle of the Nations event saw a total of 29 teams (58 players) registering, creating a prize pool of $11,250 with $2,250 for the Last Team Standing cash prize. Play was halted when the field dwindled down to 8 players and will resume today for the final battle.

Out of those remaining, only one tandem was still intact, USA’s Noel Martin and Nemesis Carners. They were awarded the Last Team Standing payout.

Closing the night with the most chips were Team Japan`s Aso Seitaro and Kakiuchi Yasuke with 162,700 chips. Team Korea’s Sang Han Wool and Gyeong Byeong Lee came in second with 103,000 chips. Team India`s Kunal Patni and Abhishek Jalan resume Day 2 today with an average stack of 72,300.

Event 4: $150 Ante Up for Charity

The Ante Up for Charity event attracted a total of 38 players creating a prize pool of $5,700 with a third of the proceeds i.e. $1,900 set aside for the Foundation for These-Abled Persons, Inc., a nongovernmental organization providing livelihood and rehabilitation programs for persons with disabilities.

Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa defeated USA’s Alfredo Reyes with the former’s hitting trips on the board against Reyes’ .
