APT Finale Macau 2016: Michael Chan & Minsik Oh Win Side Events, Large Indian Team Participating

Asian Poker Tour`s (APT) final stop this year i.e. APT Finale Macau 2016 began on Dec 7 and action has been hectic with several events underway at the Crystal Palace in Casino Lisboa. The opening Poker King Cup HKD 300,000 GTD saw Malaysia’s Michael Boon Kean Chan emerge the winner for HKD 84,300 while Korea’s Minsik Oh took down the Ante Up for Charity event for HKD 18,400.

Several Indians are participating, including Amit Jain, Zarvan Tumboli, Vivek Rughani and Dhaval Mudgal, who came directly to Macau from Manila, where he was playing the Manila Megastack 6. More players like Praveen Dwarkanath may be joining the action at the series in the next few days.

Yesterday, the Main Event Warm Up unfolded with the two-day HKD 33,000 High Rollers and the HKD 4,400 Head Hunter 1,000/Bounty events playing out at 1.30 pm and 2 pm (local time) today, and the HKD 10,100 Main Event starting the first of its two entry flights tomorrow.

 

Indian Participation

A number of Indians have made it to the APT Finale Macau 2016, including Dhaval Mudgal, Amit Jain, Vivek Rughani and Zarvan Tumboli.

Mudgal, fresh off a runner-up finish in Event 14 at the Manila Megastack 6, came directly to Macau and speaking briefly to us said, “I will pretty much play all events up till 13th when I return but will obviously extend trip if I make the FT of the main“.

He played the Ante Up for Charity event, but bubbled at sixth place, missing the money.

Amit Jain was another pro who spoke to us, “I will be playing everything except the high rollers. Excited about this trip because I haven’t really travelled much internationally other than Vegas. Looking forward to hopefully ending the year on a high and would like to wish my fellow adda52 pros well in France.”

 

Poker King Cup Opening Event

170 entries at the opening event saw the original prize pool expanded to HKD 329,800.

Michael Chan Boon Kean took the chip lead on Day 2 and ensured that it took him to the top, capturing his first-ever APT title and a payday of HKD 84,300.

The final day saw several notable, such as SJ Kim, Lim Yo Hwan, and Tetsuya Tsuchikawa exit before the final table started.

China’s Ou Yang Bo had a massive lead as the ten-handed final table began and continued an aggressive elimination spree. Bo began by eliminating Jun Saito at 10th place.

At five-handed play, Bo lost the lead to Reo Wada in a crucial hand, where the latter had against Bo’s .

A few hands later, Wada busted Bo in fifth place with his A-Q finding another queen on the board overpowering Bo’s A-K.

Wada was finally eliminated at third place by eventual winner Chan. Heads up saw Chan with a 2 to 1 lead against Hungjun Zhang.

The final hand saw Chan moving allin with and Zhang called off with . The board further gave Chan a two pair declaring him the champion, with Zhang making second place for HKD 49,300.

Ante Up For Charity

The Ante Up for Charity event was held to benefit the Holy House of Macau and saw 46 players pay up the entry fee of HKD 1,500. Minsik Oh was the final winner, taking home HKD 18,400, after defeating China’s Jian Ge at heads up play.

Dhaval Mudgal made a sixth place finish, bubbling the event, with only the top five places making the money.
