APPT 10 Manila: Alex Lee & Seongsu Kong Tied Chip Leaders For Day 3 of Main Event; Shashank Rathi & Kunal Patni Make ITM Finishes, Piyush Gupta Still in Contention

The Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) 10 Manila is now winding up, as Day 2 of its Main Event came down to the final 39 players yesterday. In a tie, Alex Lee and Seongsu Kong accumulated 673,000 in chips each and will be joint chip leaders moving into Day 3 today.

From the Indian brigade, only Shashank Rathi and Kunal Patni managed to cash in the main event with Rohit Bhalla, Navkiran Singh and Vinod Megalmani all hitting the rails before the money bubble. Indian-origin Piyush Gupta is the only one from the team still in contention with 153,000.

Meanwhile Event 13 – NLH Turbo was won by Michael Raymond for ₱318,100.

On the cards today is Day 3 of the Main Event at 2pm local time, with Day 2 of the NLH/PLO slated to start simultaneously.

Two events starting today will be the two-day ₱25,000 Megastack Freezeout and ₱4,000 NLh Freezeout.

 

50,000 Main Event

168 players took to their seats on Day 2 and only 39 were left for Day 3. In a rare co-incidence, two players Alex Lee and Seongsu Kong bagged exactly 673,000 chips for a tie as the chip leaders going into Day 3. Lee is a noted regular on the Asian circuit and ranks 14th on the current Asia Player of the Year (APOY) rankings. Kong however, is yet to make a mark on the scene.

Making up second and third largest stacks were Jessie Leonarez with 653,000 and Rommel Angeles with 622,000.

Indians starting Day 2 were Rohit Bhalla, Kunal Patni, Shashank Rathi and Navkiran Singh. Only Shashank and Patni managed to cash. Shashank made a 43rd place finish for ₱122,900. While, Patni cashed at 47th place for ₱110,600.

Australia-based Piyush Gupta with 153,000, is now the only one with Indian roots among the survivors for Day 3.

Initial action was all about reaching the money line, which began at the 54th place finisher and Team PokerStars pro Bryan Huang hit the rails just before the money bubble at 56th place. Thomas Larsen was the bubble boy, busted when his were cracked by reigning Red Dragon champion Ying Chua’s on a board of . Larsen exited at 55th place, assuring the remaining players a min-cash of ₱110,600.

Defending champion Aaron Lim, as well as Team PokerStars pros Chen An Lin, Kosei Ichinose, and Yaxi Zhu were among the early casualties.

Reigning APOY leader Alan Lau, Sam Razavi, Gab Yong Kim, and Patty Lai, the last female standing are some of those, still in the fray.

Event 13 – NLH Turbo

The ₱10,000 buy-in NLH Turbo attracted 171 runners generating a prize pool of ₱1,340,152. Defeating them all was Michael Raymond, who took home the top prize of ₱318,100.
